Throughout the project, our group worked very well together. The groups were chosen randomly, which gave me the opportunity to work with some people in our class that I had not worked with and would probably not worked with them if it was not for this project. On the first brainstorming day when we were grouped together, we started out the meeting with general discussion about the topics that interested us most. I took the leadership role in the group discussion and lead the topics. I helped guide the discussions in the right direction and asked questions to help my group mates develop ideas about possible topics. I had the original idea of doing world hunger as our topic, but Kacen and Ashley were major contributors to the idea because of …show more content…
My other group members worked collaboratively to come up with sources and other solutions for the problem of world hunger. After we discussed the possible overall problem of hunger we came up with other possible problems that we knew about and that affected both the local and global community. After brainstorming slightly more with the group we unanimously decided to focus on world hunger and food shortages. We each chose a solution, some group members needed assistance with this. After we finalized our topic, we separated to do research on our specific solutions. After finishing our final presentations, we practiced our individual presentations in front of each other. We each gave each other feedback on the presentations and put the final touches on them for the video taping. After the presentations were done and each of us fully understood each individual solution that was presented, we gathered to discuss a group solution. The strong opinions of a few group members did not cause any problems for our group since we are all respectful of what others think and talked through what we truly thought about what the solution should …show more content…
The group solution consisted of three individual solutions from our group members. We decided that best thing to do would be to expand the use of GMOs, give credit loans to developing countries, and recycle food waste. Using all three of these things together would be the most effective, rather than using only one. The GMOs focuses mainly on the scientific of technological lense. Genetically modified organisms are the scientific process of genetically engineering an organism to improve it, this focuses mainly on the advancement of how they are engineered through science and technology. This section of the main solution was my personal solution. The next part of the group solution is focused more on economics. Credit loans to other countries is a way to help developing nations pay for food and food production. This is the slightly less feasible part of the solution, since it does require money being loaned from nation to another. The third and final part of our solution helps to ensure that we are able to effectively help the entire world. Recycling food waste focuses on the environmental lense. Recycling food waste allows for people all around the world to create a more fertile soil for crop production, is affordable, and can be done by almost

After confirming that food waste in Napa was a big factor in food insecurity, we originally wanted to learn about restaurant food waste. However, we learned that most restaurants in Napa have learned to use all of their food and not much is wasted, but food waste is still a problem. After doing even more research we found out that every year about six billion pounds of fruits and vegetables in the U.S. goes unharvested or unsold. We learned that it was because a majority of…

First, what worked well was how our group integrated our individual skills together to complete the project. When we introduced ourselves and what our concentrations were, it was easy to determine what roles and responsibilities we would take on. We worked individually on our tasks before meeting together and integrating everything into the final product. The problems that arose primarily concerned communication and scheduling group meetings.…

In some groups, the tendency to quickly agree on a universal position can occasionally stifle alternative solutions. Sometimes if the group is divided into two smaller groups where it can debate the advantages and disadvantages of various solutions this planned creative conflict can lead to expanding the discussion. When separated, different leaders will emerge, and the groups may apply alternative problem solving strategies. This methodology can often help develop a leader’s perspective by showing them different solutions to the same scenario, or revealing the exact same decision through two different means. This is also a good way to see how well colleagues are able to work within unfamiliar groups.…

I feel as if the group project could have been done a lot better I felt as there was more of a focus on getting to know one another rather than focusing on the assessment. Currently I am not as confident on working with individuals that I don’t know so well as I was when we first started as I realized not everyone in the group had the same approach towards the task as I did especially in terms of prioritization despite this I believe I am more confident in showing leadership as Staci and Emily had other commitments I attempted to accommodate for this by contacting them and working out times when they were both free I believe this was a positive thing as normally in group assessments I have a tendency to rely on other people to make decisions like this and it was a positive experience delegating rather than receiving tasks. Overall working with Staci and Emily was fine as I have a more passive personality in group assignments it was a good learning experience for me a study has also shown that working as group positively influences and facilitates an exchange of knowledge(Shaw, Mitchell and Del Fabbro, 2015) this definitely occurred during our group work when it came to elaborating on social determinants I was able to help both Staci and Emily better understand them while Staci assisted me in learning about the stream factors overall I believe we compensated very well for each other’s gaps of knowledge . On the other side of the spectrum our fourth member Louis was difficult to work with as he contacted us the weekend before the assignment was actually ready to present and this caused a lot of stress and panic, after talking to Emily and Staci they definitely felt the same way about the situation with…

Collaboration is the process of working together with others to improve a piece of writing. It is a process in which others revise one’s original work and give the author advise on how to edit their piece of writing. Different perspectives are shared and taken into consideration, thus allowing the author to get a fresh pair of eyes on their writing other than their own. It is a very important step when completing a paper because it helps us be able to see the improvements needed to be made that we might not have noticed. Project 1:…

Working on a team has never been an issue, although it is it takes quite a bit of work to make a functional team. Our second presentation required us to be a part of a group that would have to come together and create an informative presentation on a current issue in California. The topic that my team and I agreed on was obesity and its effects as well as some solutions people might consider. We also went in specific when we talked about some of the illnesses obesity can cause.…

Team/Project Structure It was an interesting learning experience completing the group research project. I was fortunate enough to choose my own group. My group (Trisha Grahmann, Amanda Rodriguez, Crystal Powell, and Danielle Pardo) chose the topic of “First Impressions”; initially, this topic was the main reason why I chose to be in their group. The secondary reason was that the group members appeared to be very intellectual and insightful. Individually, we were able to choose a specific subtopic that we would like to share about and be responsible for.…

The groupthink concept was supported throughout the Cascade exercise. I believed that the snowshoes were the most important item for my group’s survival I ranked them at number 1 on my list. However, when we were discussing the importance of the snowshoes nearly everyone in my group said weren’t important. Since almost everyone in my group said they weren’t important I stayed quiet and didn’t voice my strong opinions about the shoes. This could be attributed to our nature to conform to the group and not being labeled as outcasts.…

Throughout the year, as a class we have been given many different challenges in either the form of an essay, speech, or group presentation. The final assignment given to us was a group project presentation. From growing up in an age filled with technology, I have come to love projects that revolve around making some form of a PowerPoint presentation. This PowerPoint though, was both difficult and interesting for the reasons of being assigned group members not of my own choosing, learning to listen to others ideas which can help me to learn something new, and using former knowledge while working together to create a clean, in depth, and well prepared presentation. With working in groups of students whom I have known since I was young but…

We have 5 members in our group of whom 2 were male, and 3 were female. After we were assigned the project, we all came together, and made a commitment to do it better, and succeed at it. Firstly, we welcomed ideas from everyone, without setting any criteria. Our project was to reinvent any product with more features that will be helpful for public. It was a very challenging project because we were to redesign a particular product, which should be more appealing to the costumers in terms of features, solution of particular problems, availability, and cost.…

Group Decision Making Sound decision making is an integral part of the overall success of any organization. While the leader of the organization has the final say in the overall decision making process, group decision making can generate a more complete solution to a problem by aggregating the resources of several individuals. This offers increased diversity of ideas and opens the door for more potential solutions to a problem to be considered, thereby leading to a greater sense of acceptance of the chosen solution by members of the organization (Robbins & Judge, 2009). While group decision making can lead to more favorable outcomes, it is not a perfect process.…
