Group Meeting Reflection

Improved Essays
Our group has had a rough start and a rough finish for project 1. The group consisted of eight people and one would think with eight people the work would not have been so tough. However, we did work well together when we did work, we collaborated and agreed on ideas, and we worked together to achieve some sort of product. Unfortunately along the way there were communication issues, and confusion. In the beginning, it was bright and people seemed to want to do great work for the project. That feeling stayed consistent throughout the project, though some work effort did not. We immediately set up a meeting in order to discuss what we were going to do and how we were going to do it. It was during week one, when we had the very first meeting only four of the eight group members showed up. Brian, Bisi, Russell, and Rachel decided that we were going to finish 1984 by the next time we meet, write down relevant quotes from the …show more content…
Everybody who showed up seemed to have done so. In this meeting Brian, Bisi, Jess, Nick and Rachel were the members who were doing the deliberating and idea exchanging. When we tried to communicate with the others the response was either that they could not make it due to a previous engagement, or nonexistent. As the group meeting commenced, Brian started to emerge as a leader as we talked about what we read and the quotes we found. He had some of the most analysis and started to take charge about the direction of our way of thinking about the book. From his ideas we started to build onto each other and build a more developed idea on the institutions. We still wanted to be democratic, but it was difficult to involve everyone in the group on the decisions when not everyone was present. At the end of the meeting, Jess volunteered to do the essay, and would send us the rough drafts and that Rachel was to send an email to those who did not attend the

What is your team’s approach to completing the project? This project is difficult for anyone to complete in an online class setting such as this. However, this is not because of any task that is assigned for this project, but because this assignment forces us to learn to effectively communicate with each other to complete a common goal. We began communicating early this week regarding what we need to accomplish in order to complete this project, and we have come to a conclusion.…

The main challenge of this group situation is that there was a sudden rise of conflict among members at the beginning to mid phase of the project. This resulted the possible development of groupthink (Janis, 2008). As a leader in this situation, I would firstly feel lousy and disappointed in myself that I didn’t take note of group’s division and how the meeting could be more inclusive of everyone’s opinion (Chadha, 2016). However, at that point, I would also probably feel confused but yet curious as to why it was suddenly voiced out, hence thought that I should facilitate to explicit the thoughts and feelings of each member to better understand as well.…

The groups were decided at random, and I was placed luckily with two very close friends, Josefeth and Reyna, and Kevin, a student who did not have the best reputation for completing his assignments. I felt from the beginning that I might end up doing more work than Kevin, but I decided to trust that he would not let the group down when so many points were at stake. We began delegating responsibilities amongst ourselves and made progress as they days went by. Nearing the deadline, we checked on each others progress a few days prior to the due date. Reyna, Josefeth, and I had each completed our segments of the assignment, and Kevin had assured us that he, too, had completed his portion.…

I emailed the whole group on March 5 before spring break so we could get started on the assignment because spring break was coming up. I was always aware of how court rooms worked and how judges listened to defenders and made decisions shortly after, therefore, I had assumed that a board of supervisors meeting worked the same way. Although, when I attended the Prince Edward County Board of Supervisors, it surprised me how they both were. The meeting started out with a Christian prayer from a reverend and then proceeded with the pledge of allegiance. It shocked me because normally everyone always keeps church separate from the courts and I had considered the board of supervisors a court, so I did not expect something that open. When Chairman Jones started the board meeting by, asking the board members if they had any conflicts of interest, it stuck out the most to show their…

Upon walking into the NA meeting I attended, which was located at Lutheran Memorial Church in their basement on Erial & Blackwood-Clementon Rd, I felt extremely out of place because I am not familiar with this environment making me a “fish out of water”. The meeting was called Miracles on Monday, which is held from 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM every Monday, and I would soon find that the name was very fitting for what takes place within those basement walls on a weekly basis. The normal feelings an addict has attending this meeting for the first time of apprehension, curiosity-not knowing what to expect were not apparent for me because my purpose of being there was different. The one feeling I most likely shared with an addict attending the first time…

I faced the internal struggle of being a good group member and being a good student. I struggled with communicating the urgency of completing the project to the rest of the group and not annoying everyone on the group chat. In the end, this challenge was solved by my fellow group members completing (thankfully and barely) before the deadline. If I could do the project over I would be less passive aggressive and talk to my group members about completing the work together to get it done earlier. Looking past all of my complaints and challenges this group assignment proved to be helpful and educational.…

My group, Challenger, was the intro/conclusion group for super-group B where we discussed the issue of sexual assault. Overall, I am fairly pleased with the way my group performed in the deliberation, but obviously there is room for improvement amongst all the members of my group. 1. The intro was pretty basic and vanilla, but the statistics were well researched and the amount of “ums” and “likes” were significantly increased. Visuals were minimal and non-disruptive.…

Session 6 was conducted with our professor in her office. I stated last week in my reflection paper my concerns pertaining to our professional relationship and her well-being and our professor believed it would be beneficial to have us all meet to discuss the situation and the future of our dyads. However, the duration of this reflection will focus on my interpersonal interactions during the meeting along with incorporating the text to see if my responses align with the concepts stated in the book. The meeting began with our professor directing our attention as to why we were called in to meet.…

You could say we went through the “forming” and “storming” stages of group work that semester. Second semester, after we had an opportunity to analyze each other’s strengths, we were able to work much more efficiently. We evolved into a united group with common goals, and this evolution is reflected in the deliverables we created in 732 to 752. We learned a lot about the questions to ask when designating roles on a project and paying attention to identify these strengths. We also learned about our own strengths in the process.…

The team members were friendly that we became friends that were able to help each other even in other subjects. Every member was always ready to assist whenever one of us was facing some difficulties concerning the project. The fact that we all showed equal commitment to our objective, trusted each other and remained united even when we disagreed, gave me a sense of belonging, and I was motivated to work together. Throughout the project, there were several lessons that I learned one being that teamwork is not an easy job.…

We all tried, but I think some of us took the project more seriously than others. Kevin was always late to our meetings event though when we created the team contract we agreed to be punctual unless there was an emergency. I doubt that there was an emergency every single week when we met. I think Amy and myself did most of the work, we had to assign work for Kevin and Shaohui to do otherwise they would not take the initiative to do something unless we asked them to do it which was frustrating because Kevin was supposed to be the project manager and it was his responsibility to make sure that we were doing our part and being the leader of the team. I am not saying that it was all his responsibility because we are all adults and can do our part, but what I am saying is that they were not behaving as adults.…

Due to the fact that this was the first group meeting of the semester, the beginning stage of the interaction was incredibly important. The beginning stage impacted the rest of the session, as for the first time a group of strangers were meeting, and attempting to deduce all of our similarities, and our differences. Therefore, providing introductions and facts about ourselves really assisted the group in being able to understand one another, and move on in a comfortable manner. Furthermore, the beginning stage was especially interesting as a facilitator, as the group collectively had a chance to learn about what we currently know about social work group practice, and what we can build upon going on in the semester. Understanding one another’s strengths and weaknesses is important in developing comradery in a group, and was especially important in the beginning…
