Unfortunately, there are some down sides of going to college and the most tragic one is debt. Debt is the piled on student loans that is accumulated during a student's time at college. Many students are not lucky enough to be able to pay off their tuition so they get student loans to get by. Even though college is there to further students' education, they must pay a ridiculously high amount of money. According to CNNMoney, “half of all college students get grants or scholarships that cut their net prices down. The rest can reduce the financial pain by taking advantage of other programs, such as low-cost government student loans, employer assistance, tax breaks or other aid” (Clark) Students not only have just one financial assistant, but they have many. From financial aid to scholarships which they can apply to as many as they want. Stated by the Institute of Education Sciences, “from academic years 2006-07 to 2010-11, the percentage of first-time, full-time undergraduate students at 4-year degree-granting institutions receiving any financial aid increased from 75 to 85 percent“ (“Fast Facts”). Even though more and more students are applying for financial aid, that means more and more students are able to qualify for financial aid. Which will help out a lot of students in the future. With a degree in hand they will be viewed as someone who is more willing to learn. When looking for a job, employers will view them as more capable than someone who does not have a college degree. Not only will be have a more easy life in the future, they will also be better at what they do. College will be a chance to strengthen their skills needed for their chosen career. Going to college and graduating will also open many doors and create many opportunities in one's life. College should be viewed as an experience that will be beneficial in today's world because it is very hard to get by with the present circumstances.
