In 2016 Gatorade released a new commercial with iconic athletes which included Usain bolt, Serena Williams, April Ross, and Paul George. In the commercial the athletes were pestered by their younger selves. The child version of these athletes helped motivate the athletes, such as wake them up, help them train, and be there moral support. An example of this is the first scene in the commercial where younger Serena Williams yells at older Serena Williams to get out of bed. Throughout the commercial the younger athletes encourage their older selves by using the words “faster”, “harder” “let’s go” “great job” and many more, using positive reinforcement to keep the athletes on training. The kids are mirror images of their older selves, and the commercial shows that if you try hard enough your dreams will come true. This commercial is trying to sell their sports drink ‘Gatorade’ and the way they are trying to make this appeal to the audience is by showing well known athletes to influence you to purchase the product. By buying this product they may believe that they can do the great things these athletes do. The reason why the athletes are great factors within this ad is because if someone is an athletic person, a child, or may have seen these well-known Olympic athletes, they may be persuaded to buy it. The emotion that is felt within this commercial is nostalgia. That element is shown through the children’s version of these athletes. In the commercial the children have big dreams and high expectations. This is shown within the adult version of these athletes. We were all children once, where we dreamed big and tried hard. In the commercial it shows that dreams are timeless. When most of us were young we all push ourselves to become greater. We all have an inner child within us from our past who is still dreaming big, that child is encouraging us to achieve our dream.
