Are Video Games Good For You? Not many people understand the benefits of video games, because those people have never played them. Some get frustrated when playing, but frustration just requires one to learn how to play. Each game is different and requires different skills, some are reflex, memory, problem solving, or simply role playing games. Video games have been on a slow incline throughout the years. With popularity rising developers have produced better graphics, stories, and gameplay by the year. “Today 97% of teens in the U.S. play video games, and …the domestic video game industry brings in nearly $12 billion a year” (Norcia). As with every two sided subject they have facts to prove their point as well. Although those facts are true, there are still more benefits to video games than there are negative aspects. Most of these facts lead to aggression in children after playing video games. “According to Dmitri A. Christakis of the Seattle Children’s Research Institute, those who watch a lot of simulated violence, such as those in video games, can become immune to it, more inclined to act violently themselves, and are less likely to behave emphatically” (The Positive and Negative Effects of Video Games). The American Psychological Association has found studies that actually prove that this can link aggression, but has not found the evidence needed to prove that this leads to criminal violence or behavior. Other negative impacts of video games are that it can influence children to use negative language, but as can schools or any other outside environment. The Psychology of Popular Media Culture did research to probe that video games can help by “improving the ability to concentrate in short bursts but damaging long-term concentration” (The Positive and Negative Effects of Video Games). These negative draw backs are found in every study. Other studies just help prove the two listed above. With video games having such a good impact on a person as a whole, it is best to say that those that want to disprove it will not have sufficient amount of evidence to prove their
