The Video games are a billion dollar industry that will only continue to grow in the coming years. All around the world video games shape, impact, and affect our lives. Almost anyone in the world can play a video game. Video games are now a staple of most people’s live and almost certainly will be a stable of the future in people’s lives. Whether someone is young or old they have more than likely played some type of video game. In the past Video games have not been more complex and also easier to play for example the old school version of pong is a way simpler when one compared it to one of the games in Call of Duty franchise. While they are being blamed more it is not without reason because, “approximately 90% of children in the U.S. play video games, and more than 90% of those games involve mature content that often includes violence“(Park). This can be because people have more fun with violent games than games that don’t violence. The bigger issue is that parents are allowing their children to play these game that are for older teens such as Call of Duty which is rated M on the ESRB. The rating scale of ESRB consists of six ranks they are as followed C for early childhood, E for any age, E-10 for ages ten and up, T for ages thirteen and up, M for ages 17 and up, and finally A for adults only (ESBR). Most of the popular games have M rating of games means that they have to be 17 or older to buy the game, but parents buy the game then the game is blamed for violence because it may be too graphic. If the parents do not buy the game for the child then the would be not reason to blame it Even when the kid plays a violent video game it does not mean they are going to do something violent like, “If you play three hours of Call of Duty you might feel a little pumped, but you are not going to go out and mug someone” (Kleinman).
