Trader Joe’s as a company, is a well-oiled machine. They know when to discontinue their products and keep their shelves stocked with new items every week to catch the eye of their unique customers. Their employees are paid very well compared to your average retail store. Not only is the pay good, but their part-time employees are offered health care benefits, which is almost unheard of in this industry.
Trader Joe’s also has a very unique target market, and they know exactly how to stock their shelves with new items to draw those customers in. Their customers usually consist of the well educated, artistic, and inquisitive individuals. Trader Joe’s customers aren’t just unique they are loyal too. Some customers go as far as to create fan pages where they post their favorite recipes using Trader Joe’s products, while others create fan pages to persuade Trader Joe’s to open a store in their area.
The activities that allow Trader Joe’s to perform so well include logistics (inbound), operations, human resource management, procurement, and firm infrastructure. One linkage between the primary and support activities that I found was between Marketing and Sales (Primary) and Firm Infrastructure (Support). Frim Infrastructure helps to support Marketing and Sales through the culture of the organization – a culture of happy and friendly people. Throughout the store customers can be seen interacting together and having conversations about their favorite products. Not only do customers behave this way, but the employees do as well.
