In this story, God uses Joseph to provide for all the people’s of Egypt along with the Israelites. God places Joseph into a position that enables him to keep the Egyptian people provided with food and water throughout the famine. This placement also allowed Joseph to influence the Pharaoh and to bring his family, the Israelites, to join him in Egypt. In Genesis 46:3-4 it says “‘I am God, … Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you into a great nation there. The laws that God gave to the Israelites were to provide them with a way to become closer to God, so they could share a relationship with Him. In this way, God is providing for His people; not only a way to be close to Him, but also a way to give them access to His forgiveness and grace. According to the author John J. Lennox in the book, God with Us: An Introduction to the Old Testament, “They were intended to give the Israelites a chance to celebrate the blessed experience of being part of God’s covenant people”(Lennox 104). Lennox is basically saying that God is providing a way for His chosen people to come closer to Him. This is what God originally planned for humans as His chosen people. To be close to Him so that He could care, love, and provide for us. The idea that God is a provider really resonated with me as it is something that God has been working on in my life for the past summer. God has been working on getting me to put my complete trust in Him, and give everything over to Him, trusting that He will take of everything. Reading through the Pentateuch and seeing all the different ways that God provided for people both directly and indirectly helped show me that I can put my trust in
