Most batteries seem pretty similar, and the only thing most people ever consider when buying them is the price.
The commercial worked to show viewers that not all batteries are the same and more than just price should be taken into account when buying them. In a product in which the consumer struggles to find a difference between brands, a message such as the one in this commercial can separate one company from the rest of the pack.
The message in this commercial, that Duracell is always there, helps reaffirm that their batteries will last longer and more dependably in things that matter. If a lesser battery had been put in the teddy bear, then it may not have worked as long and the daughter may have lost hope.
Duracell was able to effectively use emotion to show that if something is important it should be powered by Duracell batteries. The brand that is “trusted everywhere” is trusted because it works when it needs to and help keep people connected.
Had this commercial simply listed the chemical properties of the battery and compared them to other companies, it would not do nearly as much to show Duracell’s superiority. Consumers want to see results and not to be bored with specific
