Marijuana, also known as cannabis, continues to be a conflicting issue between the state and federal governments. This substance can be used medicinally and recreationally. However, medicinal marijuana is proven to have various health benefits, making it a controversial issue on whether to make it legal or remain illegal. Different states have different views, while the federal government has separate views. Marijuana can be both a medicine and a recreational drug. However, there is a major difference between the two. As stated by the World Health Organization, marijuana is one of the most popular recreational drugs used worldwide, not just in the United States. Even if the state allows medicinal marijuana, there are strict regulations put onto it. Those who are the caregivers of marijuana or grow the plants, are only given a limited number of plants per patient to keep everything safe. Each state has specific conditions relating to cannabis. A few states have patient registry and ID cards for those possessing marijuana but other do not (American Bar Association 2014). Various states may allow dispensaries of the cannabis and others may not. Some states have agreed to medicinal marijuana without limiting the chemical content. A few states have agreed, though there is only a certain percentage for the amount of marijuana they are allowed to consume or possess (Explore Pros and Cons of Controversial Issues 2016). Cannabis will continue to remain a questionable issue. In conclusion, marijuana is a controversial issue. There are abounding different opinions on this topic. Marijuana, for the most part, will not be used as a recreational drug, although there are chances of it increasing as being medicinal. The state government and the federal government have contrasting views on the topic. With the recent law which revised the marijuana law, there is power given to the states on expressing their opinion about the issue and moving forward with their ideas and plans.
