Legalization of marijuana has been a controversial topic for many years now. People’s views on marijuana are clearly split and there are advocates for both sides of the spectrum. The name “marijuana” is quite recent but the cannabis plant was used frequently as a drug since the colonial times. Today, teens and adults consume it for a variety of reasons and it has impacted so many lives for the better.
In this proposal I will talk about the why marijuana should be legalized, my personal experience with it, a research plan and some research questions. In my opinion the primary reason why marijuana should be legalized is because there is no reasoning for the contrary. People have the right to indulge in any form of activity as they please as long as it does not cause harm or have any serious implications on others. I will read about how institutions have tried to legalize it and why they failed in doing that. There is a lot of information on the official “ Legalization of Marijuana” website which can help me find out about its facts and effects. I can try to contact some one from the Marijuana Project Policy. It is the largest organization working towards legalization of marijuana. Their main aim is to make the sale and ownership of marijuana similar to that of alcohol. I will also explore about the negative consequences of its legalization. Overall, I feel like everything has its pros and cons but when it comes to legalization of marijuana the pros outweigh the cons.
