My Interview To Work For Ernst & Young

Decent Essays
Going into my senior year, I never really thought about what exactly I wanted to do following college. As a double major in business management and marketing, I had a lot of companies and positions to choose from. I finally decided for this assignment that I wanted to be interviewed for a management consultant position. The companies I reached out to were The Boston Consulting Firm, Ernst & Young, and Deloitte. I knew a Monmouth alumni who worked at Ernst & Young so after I didn’t hear back from The Boston Consulting Firm and Deloitte, I reached out to him and scheduled a mock interview at Ernst & Young. I asked him if I could schedule the interview in the middle of the week around 1 or 2pm because when doing research, that’s the perfect time …show more content…
When answering the first question I explained to Mr. Ryan that I wanted to be a part of a company that was well respected and known for being successfully because that’s what I want to be known for in the future. If you’re respected and known to be successful, partners would trust your decisions and follow your lead. Working for Ernst & Young would not only benefit my reputation but the company’s reputation for hiring hard workers like myself.
My prior research played a huge role when I answered the second question. I explained to Mr. Ryan that in five years I saw myself as a senior management consultant for Ernst & Young due to having experience with the company. He was impressed with this answer because not a lot of people getting interviewed look into the future of the company before getting interviewed. He went on to say people he interview usually just say they want to stay with the company at the same position their going

I never was given a case study in an interview so it caught me off guard. I really didn’t think before answering and probably should have taken my time when explaining to him exactly what I would have done. The question basically dealt with how I would negotiate with a client who wouldn’t budge. After the whole interview Mr. Ryan went step by step with me because since it was a mock interview I told him I never did a case study so he helped me out. After he helped me do the question, I thanked him for his time and handed him one of my business cards. He said he’d be in touch and wished me the best for my senior year. Right before I left, he wrote down his information on a piece of paper and told me to contact him if I ever needed anything. A few days later I emailed him a thank you letter for the mock interview and explained how much it meant to me for taking time out of his day to help improve my interviewing

Future Profession Interview When assigned an interview in my freshman level English class, there was no doubt in my mind that Clint Selman, my honors psychology professor, would be my first choice. Professor Selman is by far one of my favorite professors and I, coincidentally, hope to someday have his exact career. Selman works as a professor of psychology at Tyler Junior College as well as a part-time counselor at the Samaritan Counseling Center of Tyler. He has a lot of experience in the field of psychology, so I figured he was my best option to learn how to get the most out of my education as well as help me better understand the career that I want and how to get it.…

To briefly discuss about the speaker’s education, he finished his undergraduate degree in History and is currently an MBA candidate at the Carlson School of Management with a particular focus on supply chain management. One of the reasons he decided to join the Carlson School of Management to pursue a graduate degree is to seek more career opportunities as he could not find a job within his field after his graduation from college. I first started looking for a summer internship during the spring 2015 school semester. I used various outlets and applied to many jobs in Long Island, NY and in Albany, NY. I found that using career websites, such as CareerSaint or Indeed.com, did not result in me finding much because I would send out my resume, and not really know who my resume went to so I could not follow up with the company if I wanted to. So, I started researching online, mainly using search engines such as Google.com, companies that I thought would be a good fit for me. My major is Actuarial Science, however I am still looking at working in different areas in business in order to find something that I really enjoy doing and can see myself doing as a career for the rest of my life.…

The person that I decided to interview is David Ellinger, who is my father, in addition to being a plumber for over 40 years and a plumbing business owner of over 29 years. Mr. Ellinger became the owner of his own plumbing company in 1986 and appropriately named his business, D.P. Ellinger Plumbing and Heating. I have always had dreams of owning my own business, which played a key point why I chose this to interview. Another key point on why I chose this individual to interview has to do with the fact that Mr. Ellinger’s business holds a great reputation that has continuously over the past decades, which he dedicates to the simple answer, work hard and stick to what you say you are going to do.…

One thing that stood out to me about this interview was that you needed to have good “counseling skills” to help clients make decisions about new hair styles. The next interview is on plumbing, I think Roes tries to open the eyes of his readers on this one because most people think “oh its just plumbing all you do is fix sinks and toilets” but really it takes more than that. Roes points out that plumbing requires a attitude of craftsmanship, problem solving, knowledge of materials needed to get the job done, and having a ability to “see the whole picture”.…

For the informational interview I contacted a family friend Rebecca Gray Detling who is an executive sales manager with ICH Global LLC. I first just started off asking Rebecca on what she majored in college, how it prepared her for her job, what courses were the most valuable, and what class she wished she would have taken while in school. While in college Rebecca majored in physical therapy and had a minor in finance because she knew she wanted a future in the business field while helping out people in the medical field. Once out of college though she said that the most valuable class she took was a little of every class because with a career in the medical field, sales, and finance not one class is better than the other but a little of each class was extremely valuable.…
