Subject: Interview of a Mechanical Engineer

Introduction

The purpose of this interview is to gain a better understanding of what it’s like to be a working engineer as well as gain some insight on what it takes to get a job in the industry. I will be interviewing Jeff Boushe, he is currently the Vice President of hiring at Lockheed Martin located in Sunnyvale. He formerly was Senior Mechanical Engineer in charge of overseeing the SBIRS program. SBIRS stands for Space Based Infrared System, it is a satellite that analyzes land based thermal fluctuations that directly correlate with firefights and missile launches. Mr.Boushe will be answering some questions I have about what his job consists of on a daily basis as well as some questions relating to how he got to where he is currently in his career.

I will be interviewing Mr.Boushe in person at a local coffee shop. Mr. Boushe has given me permission to take notes as I conduct the interview. All of the following answers are transcribed from my notes and are not word for

I did a lot of drafting by hand because at the time Solidworks and cadding technology wasn’t as prevalent as it is nowadays. I also did a lot of punch card programming, which is old school programming of 1’s and 0’s to a logic reader a.k.a. a computer. My school experiences were helpful in that they gave me the general know how in certain aspects of my job. Basically school helped me to become a very resourceful person; whenever I didn’t know something or was having trouble with something my school experiences taught me how to problem solve and work my way to a solution.
