Since television personality and real estate developer, Donald Trump, announced his candidacy for the 2016 Presidential Election on June 16, 2015 at Trump Towers in New York City, using the slogan “Make America Great Again”, he has made racist comments about Asians and African Americans and has expressed an Islamophobic attitude. He even went so far as to mock New York Times reporter, Serge Kovaleski, who suffers from arthrogryposis, which limits the movement of his arms. Trump claimed to have no relationship with Serge and did not know about his disability but the reporter countered with a statement that he had already interviewed Trump twelve times and, at one point, was even on a first name basis with him. At an event in Iowa, Trump made the comment that “Negotiating with Japan, negotiating with China, when these people walk into the room the don’t say ‘Oh, hello, how’s the weather, so beautiful outside, isn’t it lovely? ...They say, ‘we want deal” (Kopan, 2015). According to this article, another group that the presidential candidate has offended along the way is Muslims. While he has not outright admitted that he believes Muslims are terrorists, he has made some implications to that effect including, the allegation that on September 11, 2001, when the Twin Towers came down in the terrorist attack, Muslims in New Jersey were cheering. News outlets and politicians in the area however, have not substantiated this claim. He has also considered implementing a national database in which Muslims residing in the United States must register so that the government can keep track of those who identify with that faith, which is a policy that has been equated to forcing the Jewish living in Nazi Germany to wear the Star of David (Cowburn, …show more content…
