Veganism is currently growing greatly in popularity. Veganism is a lifestyle in which a person does everything they can to avoid harming other sentient beings, specifically animals. Vegans eat a diet free of animal products, buy products such as cleaning supplies or makeup that do not have animal products and are not tested on animals, and do their best to avoid supporting companies or organizations that harm animals. So, by not buying animal products at all vegans do not give any money or support to factory farms. A big reason for this is not only because the animal is murdered for food but because of the physical abuse they endure otherwise. Many vegans are also environmentally conscious. Some people go vegan due to environmental impact reasons rather than for the animals. There is also a small movement of people who are “Zero-Waste”. These people basically make as small an impact on the environment as they can. Essentially, they avoid creating any waste by having as many things in their life as possible be reusable and avoid buying anything in packaging. They also generally support buying locally because it too helps reduce waste. Many of them eat a plant based diet or close to it because again animal agriculture is bad for the environment. A healthy environment is crucial to human health. As stated throughout the paper factory farms are immensely damaging to the earth and are a leading cause of climate change for multiple reasons. These reasons tie into the treatment of the animals on these farms. This is another issue for many, the abuse these living creatures endure for no reasonable purpose. Furthermore, in the end it is best that individuals cut factory farms out of their lives the best they can to stop supporting the destruction of the planet and other living beings that live on it by buying local. This cuts factory farms out of the equation all together while supporting local businesses and the local economy. It is clear from the different theoretical perspectives that this issue exists for a reason. There are small steps being taken by the U.S and movements developing to begin addressing this issue while Europe has taken a few more larger steps.
