College Athletes Should Be Paid Essay

College sports provide a huge source of colleges’ income. The school takes in money from ticket sales, television contracts, and sport-related merchandise etc. The athletes receive their scholarship and little more. While receiving a free college education is something few people would complain about, when the issue is more closely examined it becomes obvious that it is not enough. The colleges are utilized athletes, and recently the problems that this creates have become more famous. More and more athletes are now leaving school early to support their family. There have also been more problem with people feel that the college owes the athletes more than a scholarship; athletes are exploited by their schools, which make millions of dollars off of them. Furthermore, student athletes are struggled with money.
The number of college athletes leaving school early to support their family are increasing. Many college athletes come from disadvantaged backgrounds. Some families are at the stage where they need their kids the most to take care of the family because they can’t provide anything for themselves or their kids. Some schools rely on athletics for a big percentage of their income. The athletes are being exploited because they receive basically nothing compared to what the colleges are making. College should help their student athletes become more successful in the process. If colleges choose to ignore the situation as they have been doing, the problems that are just now beginning to occur will only increase. Compensation of student athletes is necessary for colleges to be fair to all of their students. College sports will always be a big money maker.
