Should Abortion Be Illegal? Abortion is a serious topic that people have debated for many years. Everywhere you look the topic abortion appears on television or in newspapers. It already has, and will continue to cause, controversy for years to come. The right to life is the most simple, yet important right that we have. Considering American ethics and values, killing is morally wrong. Then, the killing of unborn children is morally wrong as well. Abortions should be illegal because the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution declares that no states shall deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, there are federal laws protecting the unborn, and murdering individuals is illegal. The history of the legalization of abortion in American started in 1973. The Roe versus Wade court case is what formally legalized the procedure of abortion. “Roe versus Wade (1973) ruled unconstitutional a state law that banned abortions except to save the life of the mother (McBride).” I know that the Supreme Court ruled abortions legal, but it still make them morally wrong. By allowing a mother the right to abort her baby, we are allowing that mother to kill a person. A baby’s heart will start beating around six weeks, but the mother is likely to hear the heartbeat between ten and thirteen weeks (Mackenzie-Morris). By giving the mother the right to control their own bodies, we are letting unborn children to die. The statistics on abortion in America would surprise many people. In…
