Therefore, abortion is murder.”(beaconmbc.com/ articles/isabortionthesameasmurder.htm) However, the case of Roe v. Wade states that a fetus does not become a “person” until it can survive outside of the mother’s womb, sometimes referred to as the point of vitality. The two most important themes related to health in American women 's lives between the late 1800 's and early 1900 's are contraception and abortion. Both contraception and abortion would be a turning point for individual rights as well as medicine. Before the institution of medicine accepted birth control and abortion, women in general were regarded as housewives, child bearers and most served the local communities as midwives and healers to the sick. Even though midwives were highly regarded in their communities, their authority was still superceded by male doctors. Before the coming of abortion, the only way to dispose of a child was through the process of a craniotomy.…

Abortion Abortion has been a controversial topic for many years, some believing it is a privacy right for women, others believing it is murder. In 1971 Norma McCorvey filed a case under the name Jane Roe against the district attorney Henry Wade who enforced Texas law that prohibited abortion (except to save the life of the woman). She and other plaintiffs stated that the laws making abortion a crime were unconstitutional and violated the privacy rights of the women who sought to have abortions. The fourteenth amendment states “No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States …” This is the statement that Roe argued the Texas abortion laws violated.…

If a fetus is removed from the womb, it is cut off from all nutrition or energy that it receives from its mother. Without nutrition, it can no longer thrive, grow, or develop on its own and the only response to any stimuli presented is death. Most abortions save women from gruesome psychological effects due to rape or incest. Forcing a woman to carry and give birth to a child without her consent is bound to cause more psychological harm than the abortion itself (“10 Arguments: For and Against Abortion”). In most fetus fatal abnormalities such as a missing limb can be detected which can result in death shortly before or after the baby is born.…

Abortion has happened for centuries now, if they were legal or not, and still continue today. Women receive these abortions because they the health of themselves or the fetus is at risk. Another reason why women could receive abortions is because they do not want to be tethered to memories of rape or incest because they have a child to remind them. Women also have a right to make their own decision when it comes to their bodies, which means if they feel an abortion is necessary then they should be able to receive one. While these are all components to why abortion should be legal there are negatives too; many people hold strong religious beliefs or moral codes which turn them away from abortion or because of the severe effects abortion pose on women.…
