Abortion and the topic of abortion is one of the most controversial issues in the U.S today. People believe it to be immoral and even murder. Abortion is the deliberate termination of human pregnancy, most often during the first 28 weeks. Thousands of abortions take place every single day around the world. It has been defined as “the act of removing a human embryo or fetus from the uterus of a pregnant woman prior to the completion of the full term pregnancy.” Many women die because of unsafe and illegal medical procedures. which is why I believe abortion should remain legal, funded and safe to all women. Abortion hasn’t always been a safe procedure, between 1880 and 1973 it remained illegal in most of the United States. Which caused many …show more content…
61% of rape victims are raped before the age of 18. Research indicates that 46% of women who are raped are victims of family members. I believe that if a woman was raped by a stranger or a family member and became pregnant from the horrible incident, they should not have to be burdened by the memory of the rapist by having a “rapist child”. Women already have to deal with the emotional and physical damage of being raped. It wouldn’t be fair to add a child to the problem. Someone else’s will should not be imposed upon a woman's body. About 78% of the pregnancies are unplanned. Without funded contraceptive services, there would be 40% more abortions each year in the United States. Nearly one-third of all abortions after 12 weeks are obtained by teenagers.The rate in teen pregnancy would raise by 58%. It shouldn’t be a teens responsibility to bear a child if she decides to have sex. Many teens aren’t educated about sex in education classes. Many don’t also have access to contraception and even if they are it’s not always effective. They shouldn’t have to go thru the shame and struggle of raising a child just because they had
