Additionally, any employee who provides patient care, such as Certified Nursing Assistants, can benefit. This topic is significant to this audience because the primary concern for nurses and other healthcare providers is providing quality patient care, and one issue that many healthcare workers struggle with is stress-reduction.…
Music plays an instrumental role throughout our lives. Before we’re born, many of us are exposed to music in the womb. Upon death, music greets us once again to mourn and celebrate a life filled with music. Music is truly there in every part of our life. Despite this constant exposure to music, we rarely step back to ponder how music impacts us.…

As the nurse of the conference I have to be empathetic during the conversation of the conference. Having said that. I have to be clear and concise on my response to every member. An example of an active listener is when I can paraphrase what a member said if it is not clear to me by saying: As I have understood, what you said is, it is important to keep the resident in the exercise regime three times a week. Clarification is another way to show that I am actively listening during the conference.…

Active listening is a skill that requires the health professional to listen intentionally you understand what someone is saying, learn something, and to give help and support from what they are saying. If this is done effectively then skills such as paraphrasing what the individual said will be easier to do if active listening is done correctly as well as being empathetic (Gregory, 2015). Happell, Palmer and Tennent (2011) did a study to find out what skills were beneficial to have in mental health nursing from the nurse’s perspective and good listening skills was one of the top results. Nurses in the study stated that being able to listen to clients’ needs and goals effectively provided the nurses with more effective solutions and outcomes with more client involvement in their own care. This is especially important in a mental health crisis as it provides an opportunity for the individual to express feelings and thoughts and then work with the health professional to identify needs and goals.…
Empowerment is a vital skill nurses should use because it will encourage the individual to take charge of their own health and will give them a sense of self- worth. The nurse should also acquire good listening skills as they are an important part of effective communication. As described by Paris (2013) listening is the most important part of communication because you will be able to understand the message that is being expressed to you which ensures that you can give an appropriate…
A strength that I hope to utilize in my practice is my ability to actively listen to patients. As a provider, I want my patients stories to be heard and I have no problem allowing them to speak their minds without any interjections. I feel that this skill will prove useful in my practice because it will allow me to gain a well-rounded perspective of my patients’ lives and disease processes. In the book, Anna Dodge’s last provider used his ability to listen as his greatest resource; while other providers were not able to listen to her, he was and this made all of the difference in care. I am hopeful that my listening skills will allow me to gain a better understanding of my patients, and in turn diagnose them correctly.…

I must ensure that the skills [communication, teamwork, active listening and organization skills] I have learned are well applied during my clinical placement. Effective communication is very important in the health care field. As a radiographer, maintaining a positive attitude towards others, explaining jargon words to patients and seeking help from health care professionals when necessary are some examples of effective communication skills (Crawford & Bonham, 2006). For example, during placement, I must try to remain professional, objective and optimistic when speaking to patients. I must ensure care, sympathy and empathy for patients.…
Throughout my life I often caught myself thinking, “I wish someone would listen!” “Do they even know what listening is?” More so, “do they know what it takes to be an active listener?” Before entering Counseling Theory and Process, I was exceedingly confident in my ability to be an active listener, hence my interest in becoming a counselor, little did I know, there was an abundant amount of information to be learned.…
Counseling is relational; it involves communication between the counselor and the client. Counseling calls for the counselor to have an understanding of the client and to also empathize with the client. This would allow the counselor to be effective in counseling his client. The ultimate goal of counseling is to empower the client to succeed in dealing with problems in life and to live a much adequate life too (Sheppard, n.d.). Counseling provides clients with an environment for the client to be opened and it ensures discretion.…
According to the book, "Listening involves mentally participating in a conversation, meeting, or lecture for the purpose of comprehending what the speaker is communicating. This is especially true in the workplace, where employees are expected to exhibit effective listening skills. " Barriers such as distractions, creating a scripted conversation, moving too fast, lack of attention, and selective learning can prevent you from receiving a message. In Shana's case, her problem is that she is easily distracted. Shana cannot be considered an active listener because she is unable to concentrate on the present conversation, let alone listen and determine the message of the conversation.…

Introduction My chosen topic is Active “listening” in online environment. The reason I chose this topic is because it’s important while I’m taking online classes.
