Karbowski response to Lyttle Module 4 Assignment I will compare and contrast the setting and patient population Ms. Lyttle works with to my own unique health care setting. This contrast will demonstrate the need for strong communication skills for all levels in the healthcare delivery system. Places Ms. Lyttle works in an outpatient oncology unit at one of the premier hospitals in the world. The medications that help her patients to survive can impact their ability to comprehend and retain information.…
I agree with you on watch the tone of how you say it and your facial expression. It is extremely important as the medical assistant, the tone we used and our expression toward the patient. Every time I went to the doctor office, some MA speak with me on a bad look, and they don't even look at me when I explain what my health problem was. When that happed, I felt upset, and I felt like they don't care me at all. For that reason, I couldn't trust those kind of an AM and I felt like my health condition get worse.…
I continually try to remind myself of this statement. It is important to communicate with your patients what health and heeling is. I need to ensure that all my patients have the necessary resources to encourage a healing environment. I feel I do a good job with empathy and compassion but lack some in communication and offering social support. Through this research I gained insight into the importance of communicating with a patient and their family’s to ensure the best healing environment possible.…
It is important that nurses are skilled in the art of interpersonal communication. Skill refers to the ability to apply the appropriate behavior in the given context. These skills include being able to encourage patients to communicate, knowing how to pose questions, responding to the replies and giving information. Effective interpersonal communication does not always occur naturally, nor it is easily acquired. Communication has been recognized as a clinical skill that, like all other clinical skills, should be formally taught and developed (Duffy 1998).…
The decision to have any type of surgery can be an emotional thought provoking process. A feeling of nervousness and anxiety often helps fuel the decision to visit a doctor. Finding the best surgeon helps in making the decision process easier. Dr. Howard Marans an Orange County orthopedics is listed as one of best surgeons in the area for many reasons.…
“Practitioners attempted to ‘speed up’ patient stories and identified that many history-taking episodes and diagnoses were flawed in their processes. Many questions were closed, and focused too much on practitioners’ provisional diagnoses or hypotheses” (Burley, 2011, p. 36). This reinforces my belief, as a practitioner it is imperative to develop and utilize effective communication skills regardless of time constraints to better serve my…
Practice inquiry (PI) is dealing with uncertainties of the patient cases in the clinical setting through a small group approach. These ambiguities include misperceptions and bafflement surrounding cases in terms of diagnostic and treatment modalities, ethical dilemmas, and/or prognosis of the patient. The goal is for the clinicians to learn from the individual cases tackled through the group effort to demystify the perplexity of the patient condition (Sommers, 2013). In my clinical placement, PI occurs in various ways. This happens when the clinicians are irresolute about the patient’s condition, or if he/she may have encountered a similar case in the past but there is one variable that changed the whole scenario, or if he/she has a high suspicion…
Everyday tasks that are carried out by most people can be taken for granted, including getting dressed or even combing the hair. However, these jobs can become difficult for individuals suffering from mental, social and physical health problems. Occupational therapists can help them get back to having a satisfactory quality of life. The primary role of an occupational therapist is to provide a service to improve and maintain patient’s skills that will help them with their day to day activities resulting in enhancing their quality of life.…
For this paper I will define the seven principles of patient-clinician communication, how I apply each of these to my interactions with my patients, methods being used to improve interdisciplinary communication, the one that applies best to my area of practice and describe how I use it, the ethical principles that can be applied to issues in patient-clinician communication, and the importance of ethics in communication and how patient safety is influenced by good or bad team communication. Communication between patient and clinician is imperative for the best possible outcomes. Principles of Communication First I will define the seven principles of patient-clinician communication. The first concept is mutual respect, which is patient and…

Looking at the patient as a whole person, looking beyond their illness, will help make me a better PA, one who is able to give more extensively to the community.…
The CARE technique is an example of a practical, yet effective way of reducing diagnostic errors, but theoretical solutions to this dilemma are also quite promising. Ely and Graber (2016) argue that all the cognitive errors committed by a physician lead to a “single pathway”, at the end of which exists the simple statement “I just didn’t think of it” (Ely & Graber, 2016). The “it” in this phrase could either be an alternative diagnosis, the doctor’s own bias, a crucial aspect of the patient’s history, or potential complications that were overlooked due to cognitive errors. Studies suggest that by involving the patient in the diagnostic process, consulting colleagues and other medical professionals in difficult situations, and using a checklist…
A lawyer contacted me on behalf of my doctor about filing a judgment for non paid medical bills. I have medicare but the doctor states that I am responsible for payments. The doctor will not provide me with a list of unpaid services, which I have asked him for several times so I can take then to Medicare and have them investigate if the payments were actually made, until I give him a "good faith" payment of 500.00. I am on SS disability and have never had to pay medical bills because medicare covers them. Is that legal to sue me?…
It is also important to explain the patient’s current state to them and include them in decisions so they feel as if they have some control over the situation. If all the decisions are made for them and a strong physician patient relationship fails to develop, the patient’s rate of survival is not only lower but their mental state is greatly effected. In order to have a successful practice, not only for the physician but also the patient, it is crucial to incorporate the themes of Wit into one’s everyday life and become familiar the dilemmas that are bound to occur in a health care profession. By using the story of Vivian Bearing and those who cared for her as a guide, we can create a health care system that not only works toward the interests of the patient but also the physician, resulting in a well rounded method of…
All fourteen points ensure complete and holistic care of the patient. There is an exchange that takes place between those who provide care and those cared for that goes beyond the empirical reality of the moment and incorporates the spiritual. The 'art' of providing care includes an aspect of caring that has metaphysical origins and connotations. It concerns all aspects of the human experience, physical, psychological, spiritual and social. The Gestalt approach to nursing and the inclusion of caring as a primary requisite is the heart of the concept of interactive theory as it applies to nursing and as presented by Ms. Henderson.…
