This study was aimed to map out what happens with the employees involved when a company goes from being locally located to suddenly moving a department abroad, more specifically how the relationship with the Managing Director evolves. The result is based on partially relevant studies and partially on a case study within the partially virtual company: Samlino.dk. The intent of the present study was to research whether there is a difference in the behavior within a virtual team compared to a non-virtual team. With help from a survey carried out within both the virtual and non-virtual team of Samlino.dk it was possible to either support or reject the null hypothesis: “There is a difference in the behavior of the employees based in Denmark compared to the ones based in Portugal towards the Managing Director”. Adding to the answer above, although it is possible to find multiple advantages in Samlino.dk having a virtual team when considering the organizational change from an employee satisfaction aspect, moving the team abroad has had meant sacrifices. Samlino.dk’s virtual employees’ relationship with the Managing Director is different than the non-virtual team-members’ and the virtual team is feeling left out.
