Summary Reflection
I learned about Project FOCUS from my Organic Chemistry lab partner, Jameson. Every week while we waited for our solution to condense I would help her come up with different animal lesson plans for her kindergarten special needs class. She would show me pictures of the different students in her class and tell me story after story about their sweet dispositions and funny comments. Jameson convinced me to try Project FOCUS and now, after all semester I can honestly say I don’t regret a single bit of it. There is no possible way to completely describe my experience this semester but there are definitely a few lessons that have stuck with me.
Teaching is hard. This is something that I learned from the very first minute I entered the classroom. Not only do you have to come up with lesson plans, deal with meeting standards and achieving test score, but you are also a mentor and support for over 20 little kids. I watched my teacher not only teach math, science, social studies, and English to her students, but also teach them life lessons and virtues like manners and respect. A lot of these students depended on their teacher for parenting when their parents were not present. Before this class, teaching seemed like a backup plan to me, but now I see it as one of the most important jobs on this earth. Being a teacher means being a huge part in shaping and molding the lives of young individuals and working to give them the best lives and futures that they possibly…
