Reflective Essay For The Frisco Summer Lunch Program

When I began my search for my Silver Award project, my first though turned to children and kids my age, because who better to help than people my age and in my community, and I felt that the group of people the project was intended for would be a great match. I brain stormed with my troop and finally decided on a lending library for the Frisco Summer Lunch Program. My first step was to meet the coordinators of the lunch program and discuss my ideas. After this, my group and I began to gather supplies and set a final date to begin our projects. I specifically was in charge of signage and collecting the vast majority of 2000 books after coordination 2 book drives. Coordinating the drives and ultimately sorting the books was a long process that in total took more than 4 hours , and was one of the most difficult …show more content…
I learned so many things in my project, i learned that even the smallest things can bri huge bennefits and i learned so many things abut myslef in the process, such as the fact that even though leading may not be my stroungsuit, i can step up and be there for others. I aquired skills in they way books re sorted, with the help of a local librarian, and I learned the importance of organization. One of the most memorable and feel-good moments about the entire project was one i remember clearly. I was pulling up to the school to unload my books, and i saw this little boy, about 6 ot 7, sitting where we normally set up our tabel. i went up amd said hi, and he siad "i just ouldt wai for new books to come, here my one from last week to have back!". It is th eone thing that made the hours and work i put into this project worth it, and finally showed me the importance of what i was doing. I would tell others that, even if you dont think yo uhave time in your shedule for a huge project or many hours a week to volunteer, try to do

For my sixty hours of volunteer work I decided to volunteer at a Child Life Center which was in a poverty stricken area in Norfolk, Va. At the child life center my job as a volunteer was to assist the children with their homework, help the staff monitor the children on local field trips, as well as serve as a positive role model for the children. The experience I had at Park Place Child Life Center was one I will honestly never forget. Although I didn’t get any actual counseling experience, I was able to learn the ways that the non-profit organization received their funding, I was able to gain experience in working with the youth, and I was also able to make a positive impact on the lives of children who were considered “at-risk youth”. To go there every day and be able to see the change the children had in their behaviors and how much just some attention and affection from adults impacted their behaviors was honestly amazing.…

The Toberman Neighborhood Center project was fun and an amazing experience. Being a photographer I found while completing some parts made me feel to shy to ask others for help. My professor encouraged me to “get out of my comfort zone” and start asking them myself if they allowed me to take photos of them for the project, which generally is quite significant. At first I did not have any courage to ask them I simply thought I was interrupting them and invading their personal space The interactions with the organization showed me what goodness really does in society and they love to change the world and the lives of others in a subtle way.…

We spent a whole day at my school doing simple tasks such as garden cleaning, moving old furniture, covering graffiti, repainting old walls and stairwells. In the end, volunteering had a huge impact not only on me but also the community around me. It enabled me to connect with my community and make my school a better place. I realized that helping out with the simplest and smallest tasks can make a drastic difference in society. If we were to lose physical space, people would surrender their desire to obtain public good.…

As the senior project comes to an end, I am truly excited about the benefit my influence has had on the community. My senior project was just another step to the legacy that I have implemented in Warren County. Thinking back to freshman year, senior project seemed so boring and far away. I never would have imagined the progress and success I've had with my senior project. My interest has stayed the same but I wouldn't think that I would have County Commissioners and a House of Representative present at my event.…

If there is one thing that consistently describes Mexican food, it is spicy. Aside from the “spiciness” seen throughout Mexican culture, such as the “reporters” seen on some Mexican news telecasts, Mexican food can be described as hot, or spicy, and chiles are a big reason for this. While chiles are indigenous to the Americas, nowhere else is its use more sophisticated than in Mexico. Most places use chiles simply for the heat factor it provides, but chiles in Mexican food is used also for the flavor and texture. This is why there are various types of chiles used for different dishes, with each of the different type of chile serving a different culinary purpose.…

This trip was the most grueling physically by far, yet is one that gave the greatest reward. Our group had incredible feedback from the community, and the locals would spot us or drive by to tell us thank you. We constantly picked up trash and soon the locals even joined in because they were so delighted to have such positive work in their area. This trip helped me realize what hard work can do; it could be a day or a week, it doesn’t matter. As long as there is an impact or a change for the better, it is worth the time.…

If only there would have been more people volunteering, then so much more people could have been helped. And if more people can be help, then the suffering on earth can be ease. The big problem is that everyone is so busy with their personal life that they forget about the importance of helping others. A positive aspect I saw was that those who were already volunteering were really dedicated and kind hearted. I believe they are making a big impact on every person they touched and made it a task to spread their kindness.…
