The article “Goodbye, Bottled Water?”, by Gail Hennessey, was written to convince bottled water users to stop purchasing bottled water due to environmental impacts. To begin with, Hennessey pointed out such serious toxic pollution cause by throwaway plastic bottles. According to San Bernardino’s mayor, “ More than 1 billion plastic bottles end up in California's landfills each year.” Then, the plastic bottles will sit there for 1000 years to biodegrade and leaving toxic pollution. Likewise, Hennessey states that the oil needed for producing plastic bottles affect the environment as well.…

First of all, Barlow outlined that plastic bottles that water is contained in are in fact made of petroleum and natural gas. These use of the petrochemicals directly increases the economy for the fossil fuel industry. Similarly, Barlow also outlined that the actual production of the water bottles involves energy, which is in the form of fossil fuels. Therefore, the bottled water industry is directly linked to the fossil fuel industry in a sense that both the bottle itself is made from fossil fuels, and the process in which the bottle is made also requires fossil…

If it takes 450 years to biodegrade, one water bottle, and there are 35,000,000 bottles thrown away in a week, just imagine how many years it will take for all of those water bottles to stack up to reach the moon. There are too many water bottles in landfills We should have filling…

My initial thought was that bottled water is an overall better choice than tap water, but after reading all three articles, Tap water doesn't seem as bad as an option I initially thought it was. For one thing, tap water is significantly cheaper than bottled water (up to 1000 times more cheaper). Another obvious reason people seem to forget about is that the bottled water affects the health of our planet. Document 3 states “Bottled water is an increasingly growing business, and with that comes a whole lot of environmental impact that can be avoided by a turn of the faucet, says Jenny Powers of the NRDC. While we struggle to cut down on our consumption of fossil fuels, bottled water increases them”.…

The International Bottled Water Association (IBWA) states that, “bottled water provides healthy choices that are safe, convenient and meet our desire for good tasting water at home and on-the-go.” Nevertheless, there are many landfills of bottled water across the world. Leonard claims that she “came face to face with a mountain of plastic bottled from California.” California isn’t the only country to send water bottles to a different country, so there’s probably landfills all over the world. But the truth is each plastic water bottle takes seven liters of water to make ("9"). So if you were to use a new plastic water bottle everyday for a year you would be wasting 2,520 liters of water. Another plus is you don't have to buy a full case of water bottles every time you run out, which saves money. On average, thirsty customers in the U.S. throw away sixty million water bottles a day, and for every five water bottles consumed, one is recycled. The length of time for plastic water bottles to decompose is between four hundred and one thousand years. People may choose to drink bottled water over tap water with the misconception that it is the cleaner, tastier, or even a healthier choice. The rate at which people are consuming bottled water is causing landfills to be filled with approximately seventy-five percent of the plastic water bottles that are made. While bottled water sales increase, the consumption of tap water is the most advantageous choice for health benefits, environment conservation, and affordability as a choice for the consumer.…
