That was the end of that pinewood derby, now we wait for all the results and then the trophies. My Dad, my brother and I have been involved in a group at our church called Christian Service Brigade or CSB for short. It is a group that gets together once a week and does things similar to the boy scouts. One of these things is an annual Pinewood derby.
I started building and racing cars in this pinewood derby with my dad when I was five years old. It has now since become a tradition to be involved in this derby both racing cars and running the races for the other boys. I raced

We would have all different colors of spray paint that we would use on the cars to make neat little designs on them. The smell of spray paint reminds me of those days when I was a little bit younger. And the good time I had making pinewood derby cars with my dad and my friends.
While we were waiting for the paint to dry we would take a dremel and put axles in it and polish them with some sort of special sand paper so that the wheels would turn better on the track and the car would go faster and smoother. Once the car was dry and the axles were polished we would test them on the track. Our group always had this advantage because we hosted the event and had the track set up the night before the race.
The day of the race was always an exciting day, I would always wake up to early and have to wait till it would finally be time to leave and head to church for the race. When we got there I would walk into the foyer and see all the race day decorations hanging from the ceiling. After we got there we would send our cars though the weight in station and then the car would be taken to the pit to await the races, with all the other cars that were sitting there waiting to go on to the

In this story, I was at my best when I was working with others towards a common goal. Last January, my Boy Scout Troop partook in the Hopewell Klondike Derby. Our troop constructed a sled for the competition and prepared everything we needed in a long black box. In this derby each team is challenged to pull their sled along a course to several stations in which our boy scout skills are tested. Our team did fairly well at quite a lot of the stations, while we struggled on others.…

Soon enough I changed to a better club called NJ Stallions and they offer to pay more than half of the tuition for me. My parents and I were so happy to hear this because the tuition to play for the club was 2,500 per year and I only had to pay 700 which included the uniform . While I was in that club doors started to open up for me . For example in that club I got called to go to a national odp camp in Florida which is highly selected players only.…

Slipping my boots on, my focus was fully on the task of getting my mare bathed and ready for the barrel race we were heading to that evening. My thoughts racing in my head as I reached for her halter and lead from the hanger on the tack room wall. I've been to barrel races so may times in the past twenty years that I should be at ease, but I'm almost more anxious now than I've ever been before. Walking toward the gate, lost in my thoughts, I'm wondering what the night ahead has in store for my partner and I. When I say "partner" I mean my horse.…

My dad had been racing street stocks at Tri County Motor Speedway and Hickory Motor Speedway since before i was born on December 9th, 1998 he raced full time for several years afterwards until my sisters were born when he began racing on only a part time basis. Until he finally retired and only made a start here and there in 2014 i began racing in the Renegade division at Hickory Motor Speedway finishing tied for 5th in points in my rookie year out of 18 drivers throughout the year. In 2015 i had a lot of bad luck from axel breaking in the first race, wreck totaling the car next race and a lot of mechanical problems throughout season but still was able to battle back to a 6th place points finish out of 14 drivers. I Corinthians 9:24 states, “Do you not know that those who run a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you obtain it”. My Cross Country/Track coach is one of the best men I know. He not only betters his runners by teaching us, but he also runs with us. Pushing us to greatness with words of encouragement, he implores us to leave all energy on the course/track and teaches us to be exceptional people outside of running. He expresses to us that no matter what we do, he will always be proud of each member of the team; therefore, our actions can’t change his love for us. That’s why it was devastating when he told us before the past track season, that he would not be able to coach for the remainder of the running season from February until we initiated winter conditioning November.…

Fanatical About “Gordon” As a teenager I would think that watching a NASCAR race was about the most boring way to spend four hours or more every weekend; although every weekend my step-father would persistently watch cars race around in a circle. My opinion began to change in 1993 after a get-together with co-workers. They would get-together between the work weeks and grill out, drink beer and watch the race. In “93” I became a part of this ritual although I still didn’t care very much about the race I did enjoy the good food and camaraderie.…

It had already been determined for me that I was going to race motocross before I was born. Although my family has since moved on from racing, it had been everything for as long as I can remember. I clearly remember the loud and hectic Friday nights and the chaotic Sunday mornings spent at the track. The dedication we, my two brothers and I, had towards the extreme sport and the dedication our parents showed towards our passion will forever be apart of me. By the time I was born, my family had already tried many various forms of racing: BMX, snowcross, or snowmobiles, four wheelers, and dirt bikes.…
