Personal Narrative: Mr. Or Coach Land

It’s Not Worth It

Jeremy Land, better known as Mr. or Coach Land, is a high school U.S. history teacher and football coach at Monett High School. He is a tall, has short blonde hair, pretty muscular guy, who almost every girl in school drools over. He’s really cool, he’ll take you aside and help you out on assignments he knows you’re struggling on, but if you make him angry, oh boy you better watch yourself. Well not necessarily watch yourself but he will set you straight. Overall, I could say he’s a caring guy but like the Hulk if you make him angry.

Coach Land taught me probably the most important life lesson I have ever learned. A lesson that will stick with me forever, one I will probably teach my children, if I have any. He has taught me many life lessons and there are most likely many more to come. He taught me that nothing in this world, or even in this universe for that matter, is worth ending your life over. Not a single thing, not now, not ever will ever be worth your life. Now, he just didn’t come up to me one day and say, “Hey, there’s nothing in this world worth ending your life over.” No, it wasn’t like that.

I got home and tried committing suicide. My mom caught me in the act and stopped me, the next day I was sent to a

The thing about running is that you hate it until it’s over, at least for me that’s true. Personally, I like running, and it gives me a chance to get out and work towards something. All throughout high school, I’ve run track, and for two years I ran cross-country, both are great sports. The two years I ran cross-country made me wish I ran all four years. If you’re part of more than one sport, it’s natural to choose a favorite.…

When a character is faced with a hardship, how they react and present themselves allows an audience to connect with the character and invest their feelings. The more they face the situation and make the best out of it, the stronger the connection with the reader is. Examples of this are Coach Lad and Coach Thomas. Both coaches were faced with extreme hardships in different ways, one was medically related and the other caused by disaster. There are a couple of obstacles that have played a major role in me becoming who I am today. I've had naysayers trying to negatively influence my thoughts, and crush my dreams by saying that said I will never amount to anything, or that I should give up on my dreams and get realistic with my goals. A couple years ago I was a completely different person. I was out of shape physically, my academic performance was very poor, and I had a terrible attitude. I improved greatly in athletics and my academic career.…

Have you ever been on a team that did not have a coach or a leader to guide your team? It is almost impossible to have a team that does not have someone who can lead the team to success in victories but also in one another. I am not completely sure that I would want to be a basketball coach, but I know that one day I plan on being a coach for either volleyball or basketball. Right now I am a volleyball referee about four times a week and I see how people are coached. Coaches are a key component to a successful team.…

America. The land of the American Dream, where we tell ourselves anything is possible if you work hard enough. In the beginning it was achievable for the middle class, but as time went on, it lived up to its name and for the vast majority it did indeed become a dream. Living beyond one’s means became the norm and we became a nation of hustlers. This unmistakably is why we are where we are today, a nation with one of the lowest unemployment rates, and highest GDP per capita.…
