First Time in Florida
Spring break is always a really great time for students. Spring break is a break from school and that can’t ever be a bad thing.Often times students go to sunny Florida and that was exactly where I was headed for the week. Not only flying for the first time but this would also be my first time in Florida. I was so excited I might have made the teachers want spring break just as bad as I did.
The airport was the worst part of the trip. It was so loud I couldn’t hear the person next to me. On top of that, I kept getting bumped into left and right, it was that crowded. Once we were finally on the plane things calmed down some what. Although there were a few rowdy kids and grouchy parents it went pretty smooth. The plane ride was only about 4 hours.

I could already feel the change. Spring break finally felt like I thought it should. Our in sunny Ft. Lauderdale cottage was a few short feet from the shoreline. It had the type of view that you only saw on postcards. The view was truly stunning. The cottage itself had 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms with a huge living room.
But what’s Florida if you don’t experience the weather and lovely beaches? Since the beach was so close and there was still time left to kill that day, we decided to hit the beach. Much to my surprise there was a party down on the beach. There were flashing lights, a DJ, people dancing and beach balls bouncing. The feeling in the air was electric! I was caught slightly off guard by how different this was from Michigan. I had never seen anything like this before. After a night of partying and beaches I was way to exhausted to do almost

Destin Florida is my family’s favorite vacationing spot, its white sand beaches, blue green water, and beautiful ocean front condos always kept us coming back every year. The trip down to Destin was only supposed to take 12 hours, but it took us 15 due to my father’s inconvenient misreading of directions. As we finally crossed the bridge that led into Destin, waves of excitement filled each of us. Our condo was massive it was 16 stories high and only 50 yards away from the water. We all left our luggage in the car and ran to the elevator anxious to see what our condo looked like because my grandparents had kept from us what it looked like.…

My first time in Miami was December 4, 2009. It was a winter morning, but in Miami there wasn’t a hint of coldness in the air. When we first received the news that we were leaving Cuba everyone was excited and when the day finally arrived it was a little less thrilling and a little more somber. Leaving everything behind and moving to a new country was difficult and leaving a lot of our family was worse. “This is for you and your sister’s future” my parents said when we arrived in Miami I believe they were trying to persuade themselves more than us.…

Florida is a land of sun palm trees and sand. Florida being a southern state with sweet tea, Publix, and Disney just a few hours away, had many perks. I had never thought of what it might be like to grow up in a northern area, or just even outside of Florida. Up until my 14th summer I had always assumed everyone lived the same way I did. It had all started when I got accepted to a summer program in Washington D.C to attend a medical forum.…

What started my love of swimming was when I was at a tender age of three my parents took me to Florida, I observed other kids taking swimming lessons and I decided to start swimming right then and there. On top of that, part of my old school’s curriculum was to have swimming once or twice a week. One of the many reasons why my parents and I moved to Florida was because of my love of swimming. Even though I started school with an exorbitant amount of homework, my parents and I swam at an olympic size pool religiously every Sunday.…

My transformation - Sunshine state Move to Florida I welcomed with yet other set of opinions. This time however I could loudly express them with whomever crossed my path. While finishing my affairs In Toronto, I was saying goodbye to familiarity, safety, people and places. Cherishing memories, I packed up my life again to a big 18 wheeler with an allotted compartment to set “my home” on the journey through the continent. I think there is an enormous difference between having a choice vs following somebody’s choice.…

On a sunny and humid day one summer, I found myself in the Sunshine State, Florida. As I scanned for restroom signs on the side of the blistering asphalt, I turned from the safe, industriously spick-and-span interstate I was on, onto a narrow, unkempt, slightly muddy dirt road. The appearance of such a thing was surreal, this dirt road wasn’t carved out of the earth for tourism but it was a real path America’s ancestors had used. As I waded in the opposite direction of the freeway perfection, the charm of the road wore off. Its palette of colors included all sorts of mud-browns ranging from “a puddly day in the neighborhood with rainboots” to “the hole my dog dug in the backyard”, but also included more unpleasant notes like “splattering…

From smelling the salty waters by the Florida Keys, seeing all of the green from the stems of green beans growing, the flavor of the freshest eggs you could get from the coop in the backyard, to the avocado tree growing in the backyard, my trip to Florida had become one of the greatest life experiences I’ve had yet. Visiting Florida taught me many skills on being independent, mentally, and how easy and fun it is just to be to yourself sometimes. It all started Christmas eve when I got home to find my presents from “Santa” there before we even went to bed. My parents had planned on taking a vacation to Florida for Christmas break to see my grandparents, but we were unable to also get my parents there.…

The importance of spring break is being able to have some time off from all the stress that you have at school. What I like about spring break, however is the time I have to really catch up on my sleep and see people I don’t really get to see at school. Sleep is something I hardly have nowadays with all my homework assignments piling up. For example, I was able to go to sleep as early as nine o’clock, and wake up feeling energized. Consequently, having so much more time on my hands, I felt completely rested for any activity, not like usual.…
