I sat down by myself and reflected. After tens of thousands of hours of devotion, swimming has become a huge part of who I am, and will no doubt shape the person I will come to be. One of the earliest lessons swimming taught me was to never give up. When I was 9, swimming taught me to fight the fatigue during lap two of a race. When I was twelve, swimming taught me to attack race two with everything I had, even if race one hadn't gone my way.…
Growing up, my family and I weren’t very religious by any means. My parents grew up in Catholic families, but when they moved away from their families, they moved away from God too. Every time we were stationed in a new place, my parents always blamed not going to church on the military and how we would always be moving. My sister and I didn’t mind this, because we didn’t really know what church was, and didn’t understand the meaning of it, but when we moved to Louisiana in 2012, I met a friend that would change this. I met this girl Samantha, who seemed to be in a few of my classes.…
What comes to mind when you think about Florida? Do you think about Disney? The food and restaurants?Or the beautiful parks and fun places you could see? Florida is a great place to live because of its beautiful palm trees and beaches. I go to Florida every year because it is a great vacation spot for the family and friends.…
I moved to Titusville in the middle of my junior year, to get better schooling, and to use my full potential academically that I wasn't able to obtain back in my hometown. Moving across Florida, away from my parents was a dramatic event, and it took some getting use too. Living away from my parents, made me feel grown and mature like I had my whole life in my hands with nobody there to always tell me what to do. I, now live with my aunt and uncle, attending Titusville High School. I am a part time college student and also acquire high school credits with my courses at the college.…
Walking around Miami in Florida, I’m trying to find a career, I would like to do when I get older. I have three options to choose from, which are an orthodontist, a criminal justice, or an interior designer. I’m still having a difficult time trying to choose what I want to be. I was a little hungry, so I went to the nearest Starbucks Coffee Shop to get something. As I’m making the line I see my cousin Crystal Galvez in front of me.…
During 2008, my family moved from New York to Georgia. Technically, the only person moved was me. My mom and dad stayed behind. My dad went to Atlanta and purchased a restaurant in Perimeter Mall ( upscale mall in Dunwoody, GA) where we opened up Malibu Wings and another one near Georgia State University on Peachtree Street. I finally got paid after all these years.…
I am a dad and I have three great children. One night when we were downstairs watching a movie when the kids were asleep, I said to my wife, Amy, “I want to move to a more exceptional place so the kids can grow up in a better environment,” Amy said she wanted to do that too. “ It would take a long time and I wanted to find a new job because my original job is moving to Texas.” Right now we were living in a small town called Eagle. I told the kids if it was a good idea.…
The school was also more rigorous, competitive, and academically challenging, so she didn't have time for the her favorite activity, swimming... One event would change her thinking forever. She was on the varsity swim team at school and on a private league. On both teams she won the California state championships in A rank multiple times during her time at that school. Swimming on two different leagues took up basically the whole day outside of school, from five in the morning to sundown, with little time in between.…
Hawaii, the home of white sand beaches, pro surfing, hula dances, and warm weather. If I could move to any region within the United States, I would move to Hawaii with no hesitation. Hawaii contains a prestigious hospital and the opportunity to become a surfer. Both of which of which I have always dreamed of being a part in. Nothing would make me happier than becoming an orthopedic surgeon operating out of a Hawaiian hospital working on shark attack victims and other unlucky victims who need orthopedic repair, then go straight to the beach to surf and relax for the remainder of the day.…
The day that I thought would never happen, it happened. I did not know what to do or how to act, I just set back and tried to deal with it. I could not see this coming nothing was going my way. I was think that it would not happen but it did. How could something be good one minute and the next not.…
Florida This is when I went to Florida. When I went to Florida we go see family out there a lot. So sometimes we stay in their house which is on the ocean! At 5 o'clock we see dolphins swim it is really cool.…
Over the summer I went on a great vacation with my family. My entire family flew from Denver to Florida. We took a cruise from Florida to the Bahamas and back to Florida again. After the cruise our vacation continued at Universal Studios in Orlando Florida. It was a fun filled vacation and a great cruise filled with lots of fun activities.…
The Lesson in Quitting For the past 7 years of my life, swimming has played a huge role. Growing up, I had always enjoyed being in the water, and was one of the odd kids that genuinely enjoyed swimming lessons, no bribes required (thinking about it, I wish I had some of those kids in the lessons I teach now). Overtime, it began to feel less like a passion and more like an obligation; something I had committed to that was too late to stop. I was afraid to quit, afraid to disappoint, and trying to be dedicated to a sport I had lost interest in made me start to hate it. This year, I finally decided to drop the sport, and am now embracing the huge change it has had in my life.…
Swimming and working wasn’t very fun though because after morning practice I would go straight to my job, then after guarding all day in the heat I would go back to a hard afternoon training in the sun. There were days where my sunburn limited my body movement or a dehydration caused massive headaches, and me want to quit swimming. I thought to myself that if I didn’t keep fighting when a little sun made life was hard, how I would pull through for my family in actual challenging times. However swimming brought me peace, joy, my best friends, and these will always be outweigh the hurdles. Whenever I’m feeling stressed or angry, swim has always helped me relieve those…
Family or sports-it seems like a simple decision, right? Not for me. My family has been getting together to have Thanksgiving since before I was born. I love seeing my grandparents, hanging out with my cousins, and most of all, the sweet, juicy, tender turkey that my grandmother cooks for us every year. On the other hand, I had set some high goals for me in swimming such as making the state swim meet.…
