Personal Narrative: My Trip To Destin Florida

Destin Florida is my family’s favorite vacationing spot, its white sand beaches, blue green water, and beautiful ocean front condos always kept us coming back every year. The trip down to Destin was only supposed to take 12 hours, but it took us 15 due to my father’s inconvenient misreading of directions. As we finally crossed the bridge that led into Destin, waves of excitement filled each of us. Our condo was massive it was 16 stories high and only 50 yards away from the water. We all left our luggage in the car and ran to the elevator anxious to see what our condo looked like because my grandparents had kept from us what it looked like. All 9 of us piled into one tiny elevator headed for the 15th floor. The elevator seemed unusually slow, …show more content…
45 more minutes in those conditions would be bad for my grandparent’s health. Looking for something to pry the door open we found a cell phone in my girlfriends’ moms’ purse. The phone was on 10 percent, so we rushed to call 911 the lady who picked up was much nicer, and sounded very concerned while on the phone, assuring us that we would be out of this hot metal box within 5 minutes, and that a fire crew was rushing our way. The tension seemed to settle as we waited, knowing that we would be saved within the next couple minutes. A bang on the door and a shout from outside let us know that they were opening the door, and to stand clear. Fresh air rushed into the elevator, as the door popped open we all breathed a sigh of relief glad to be able to walk around. The fire crew took a thermal temperature device, and scanned the inside of the elevator. The temperature was 150 degrees, and would have continued to climb if we wouldn’t have gotten out. The owners of the hotel met us outside the doors, apologizing for this terrible inconvenience, and offered to pay for a 3 day, deep sea fishing trip, for the whole family. We took them up on the offer, and it completely turned our entire trip around, it actually turned out to be the best vacations that we ever

It had all started when I got accepted to a summer program in Washington D.C to attend a medical forum.…

If the building you were in started catching on fire, would you jump out of a window or would you burn to death? Some people would say jump, but what if the building was ten stories tall, would you still jump? You might think that this is the worst case scenario, but this actually happened in real life. In 1911, the Triangle Shirtwaist Company factory caught on fire killing and injuring many of the workers. Isaac Harris and Max Blanck were the owners of the factory.…

A teacher who was notified of the situation lead to activate a fire alarm; unfortunately at the time it was too late for the students and teachers on the second floor of the North wing to escape. After being dispatched falsely in the wrong direction, the fire department units became arrival within four minutes. Still managing to make a quick response time, the fire was currently at the fully developed stage for as long as 40 minutes prior. The situation became upgraded to a “five alarm” (all available equipment and units). A snorkel team then arrived pouring water on the blazing building trying to reduce the extreme temperatures. Not wasting a split second fire fighters on scene began to approach the horrified individuals in one of the classroom through a second floor class room window.…

The only fire escape in the building collapsed during the fire and the locked doors trapped the workers in the building. There were very few buckets of water to douse the fire and the firefighters’ ladders were too short to reach the top floors of the building. The company builders and owners did not provide any means to extinguish a fire; as a consequence, in trying to escape the spreading fire, women jumped out the windows to their death. To the owners, the workers’ safety was the last priority compared to producing products and creating…

When the fire broke out, all workers on the 8th floor escaped and the owner of this factory, Max Blanck and Isaac Harris rushed to the roof faster than anyone else and saved their lives as well without announcing to employees workers. The accountant on the 8th floor called on the 10th floor and reported that a fire had occurred, but unfortunately this did not happen on the 9th floor. The building had two cargo elevators and two stairs, but each floor door to the stairs was locked and the owners of factory had the key. The fire spread very fast, and the workers on the 9th and 10th climbed up to the roof and attempted to escape through the emergency stairs. However, the emergency stairs were built poorly and collapsed when a lot of people gathered at once.…

During April of 2015, I stepped out of the car and onto the beach for the first time in Destin, Florida; the salty sea stung my nose as I breathed in a refreshing breath of briny air. The first step onto the sand was like a bed of blankets; soft and comfortable. The way the white sand glided onto my feet and squished between my toes felt like heaven. The waves were singing a delicate lullaby, pulling me closer to them. As I walk towards the ocean with the warm sand beneath my feet, the cold waves lap at my ankles, as if they want to take me away.…
