Improved Essays
Several challenges occurred during my college career. I worked throughout the majority of my education to pay for books and tuition. My parents helped with the costs of attending college as well as supporting me when my studies became difficult. The experience of being the first in my family to work towards a bachelors degree meant a lack of guidance and advice. I sought out the advice of an adviser who I have been working with for the past three years. I was unsure of what I wanted to do with my life and ended up applying to a respiratory therapy program, a paramedic program, and my state university. I was accepted at all three programs but decided to pursue medical school. I researched all three programs and decided the best fit would be

“I know applying to colleges is the last thing you want to do right now, but you might change your mind,” a trusted friend told me. It was December of my senior year of high school, and college application deadlines were approaching quickly. I was recovering from a major illness at the time, and wasn’t ready to think about college. My plan was to spend a year living at home and working before I pursued higher education. In the following months, my recovery progressed rapidly.…

Something I never expected to see in college was a dead body. At first, she was face down in a blue body bag, surrounded by preserving fluids that made some people nauseated. Her head was shaved and the first incisions were made on her legs, arms, back, and butt. Muscles were starting to be isolated and pulled away from the body that housed them. The shock of seeing a person, someone who was alive less than a year ago, be disassembled in front of your eyes takes a strong stomach.…

When I had my first meeting about my senior year schedule and my counselor told me I could graduate early, I immediately said yes. I didn’t think about all that would go along with it and at the time I had no idea so in an attempt to convince me not to graduate early, my counselor told me to think about it and really weigh out my options. I thought about it a lot and didn’t see a single reason against it. 2 weeks later, after speaking to my parents I went right back to him and told him I am graduating early. He then asked me what's my plan.…

According to the Web site Virginia.gov, Virginia’s three year graduation rate for community college students has improved. In addition, 30 percent of students have been able to graduate. This low success rate is not good for college students. My first year of high school was winding down, teachers had covered all learning material, and most students were preparing for finals. June had just begun, and along with studying, I had an upcoming saxophone recital for which I had been preparing since April. The Tuesday before my recital, I had my second to last lesson with my teacher, Fred Scerbo, before the recital on Sunday. I was preparing a piece by Charlie Parker named "Anthropology". Despite its difficulty, I felt that I would be able to perform it well.…

My college search has been centered on two main components, the first is being a small liberal arts school and the second is money. I first discovered Vassar while reading the Fiske Guide to College. I liked the school enough to take a day and participate in a campus tour and information session the campus was absolutely beautiful, the history was intriguing and the quirky facts, like how the college had been banned from competing in world records due to fibbing about their longest unsupported tree branch, drew me in but diversity is what made me fall in love with Vassar. Not just the overall diversity of the students that attend Vassar but individual’s diversity. Review after review have stated that Vassar’s students can’t be placed in a box…

I was sure I found this match when I stumbled upon Boston University during my search. During my high school career I made it my goal to push myself each year in order to test my limits and each year I surprised myself with how much work I could take on. I balanced piano lessons and auditions, with honors and AP Courses. Then senior year I thought it was time to get a job so I could become more independent from my parents and they told me that the pressure would be too much, so I did it anyway.…

For me I didn’t really have challenges while obtaining my degree my challenges were deciding which field I wanted to go in. Having a degree in Business you can go into a lot of fields, but knowing which one best suits you is the hardest part. I talked to my student advisor at the college, my father, and other family members and we all agreed that accounting would be too hard for me and career wise finance was a better direction. After I picked a field there was nothing left for me to do but enjoy college and I did. Cheering my way to College It was a gorgeous day out at the beginning of August, I was eight years old when I limped my way into my first day of cheer practice. But first, let me go back to what happened earlier that day. I was with all my friends playing on a swing set in my friend 's backyard, when I realized I didn 't know where my phone was. I panicked when I was on the swing, picked my tennis shoes up off the ground, and sprinted inside to get my phone. As I ran, I stepped on a huge nail in the yard, my shoes went flying, and I collapsed in the grass.…

Examples of these challenges include lack of experience, the unsure certainties like negotiating salary and benefits, expectations of the job and job requirements, including the lack of direction and possibility of relocating (Peterson, 2016). Organizations now are eliminating entry-level jobs and going to more automated services, making it hard for anyone looking for a job (Weber & Korn, 2016). College degree or not, to be successful, there will be challenges to overcome and more knowledge to learn. The challenges I face finding a position in the job market today is my job history and the thought of relocating.…
