PTO Policy Case Study

It almost sounds like a perfect job when a company offers 25 days of PTO. Sure, you would have to schedule them two days in advance, but it beats the old "point system" that I am subjected to. I for one, would absolutely love to have 25 PTO days. I tend to have a problem with a babysitter and I am certainly in trouble when there is a school delay. Obviously pros and cons of using PTO policy that offer 25 days off will be present. Some advantages to this policy are: workers are treated as adults that are entitled to use any PTO days at their own discretion; Managers do not have to monitor an employee's use of their paid time; With an employee's scheduling PTO day in advance, they are giving their employee a "heads up" so that they can better prepare for workloads; Employee's tend to appreciate the flexible aspect of a PTO policy. …show more content…
Disadvantages of a PTO policy are: Employee's that are new to a company will accumulate PTO days at a slower rate than an employee that has been with a company for a while. PTO is viewed by some employees as a benefit and will use all of their time when they may not have used it in the past; Some employee's will not use PTO days when they are sick; Coaching may need to be used to address any oncoming issues with an employee coming into work when they are sick; Manager's will also need to put into place any expectations from employee's to model appropriate behavior when using PTO
