Old Spice, a major company for hygienic products produces this commercial for a body wash. During this advertisement the company uses many methods to get this product noticed. When a commercial is presented to the public a designer will use audio and visual aids to get their product to sell. The advertisement for old spice body wash is targeted toward men but this television advertisement makes use of a well-known actor to appeal to the female audience because they are the main shoppers for most households. An example of the ethos method in this commercial is the fact that Isaiah Mustafa is a confident manly man who is helping to sell a body wash to make you smell like a man. When the audience sees the figure of Isaiah Mustafa on the screen say that they can be like him by using this product it is an appeal to them using the credibility of a famous football player. When this commercial begins a bare-chested ex-NFL wide receiver Isaiah Mustafa starts off the commercial with a captivating smirk, nice twinkling eyes, and a brief raise of his eyebrows. Isaiah Mustafa is standing in a shower wearing just a towel holding a bottle of old spice body wash. The scenes progress to show different places but Isaiah Mustafa is always shirtless and barefooted looking very handsome. While Isaiah Mustafa walks and talks the background and setting of the commercial keeps changing and the actor never loses eye contact with the camera. This makes it seem like he is looking directly into the hearts of the ladies that he seems to be talking to. Old Spice has done a great job of advertising by using an extremely smart and effective way of selling a product designed for men by appeal to women. This ad reaches out to the needs of women which captures the attention of the men that they are targeting. If a woman likes a commercial that deals with a mans product they will me more likely to buy it or to influence the men that they know to purchase it. This advertisement reaches out to both men and women with an image that is a perfect man and what a real man should smell like. This is a way of appealing to women’s taste and a man’s emotional need to smell like a manly man to attract women. The uses of lures as well as the ethos, pathos, and logos methods go a long way in the world of advertising today to help a company stay ahead of its competition.
