The commercial, “#LikeAGirl”, by Always, focuses on how a girl’s confidence goes down when they hit puberty.”#LikeAGirl” displays this by telling kids to run, throw and hit like a girl would. The commercial main point is to prove that doing things like a girl should not be used as an insult. Hitting puberty as a woman isn’t supposed to lower confidence. Many women who are athletes have proven that hitting puberty has made them stronger.
This commercial takes place in a simple room with a blue background. “#LikeAGirl” starts out by asking a group of kids to, run, fight and throw like a girl. The kids vary from ages ten to teenagers, both girls and boys. The first set of kids are three teenage girls, one young and teenage boy. They are asked

The guy fights like he is scratching someone. The girl does the same thing as the boy but with her eyes closed. The last action is throwing something. They show one of the teenage girls and the young boy for this action. The teenage girl throws without even trying and the young boy pretends he drops it before throwing. Then the producer tells the second group but this time its four young girls. The girls also have to run, throw and hit like a girl. The girls show the opposite when they do it. They run as fast as they can. They show they can fight like a warrior. When they show how a girl throws they throw like an olympist would. After this, they ask the youngest girl what does it mean to run like a girl and she says “It means run as fast as you can”. Then the screen goes blue and they show “When did doing something “Like A Girl” become an insult?” They ask the youngest boy if he thinks he just insulted his sister. He responds with “No, I mean yea, insulted girls but not my sister”. They change the camera to one the young girls. They ask her “Like A Girl is a good thing” She has a confused face and says “I don’t know if it’s a good thing or a bad thing. It …show more content…
Men can relate to this video because like the young boy in the commercial they don’t realize that by saying you run, hit and throw like a girl. It relates to their own sister because they are a girl. Boys who think they aren’t insulting their sister because they don’t say directly to them you do stuff “LikeAGirl” aren’t smart enough. They don’t understand that they are offending every girl including their sister because she is a girl. Audience might feel anger because the phrase “LikeAGirl” has always separated men and women to be different. Our society has divided the concept of a guy doing certain things because they are guys, this is the same for girls. Hitting puberty should be a positive thing not a negative thing. Always is trying to emphasize that being a woman is a wonderful thing. The phrase “LikeAGirl” has become an insult because men use it against each other. They use it in sports, they say it when a guy is not as fast or the strongest. They use “LikeAGirl” as an insult because women are considered weak. Women who are professional athletes that have gone through puberty could reject parts of the ad because they gained more confidence rather than loosing it. Not all girls run fast, throw far or hit the hardest but

The commercial, “#LikeAGirl,” by Always strives to get the audience to support the idea that the phrase “LikeAGirl” should not be used as an insult. Their target audience is women because they want to make women feel confident for a being a woman. In their commercial they want to prove that being a woman is wonderful. Since Always is not selling anything in their commercial, so for my advertisement, I wanted to reinforce their idea of how “LikeAGirl” should not be used as an insult and that doing things “LikeAGirl” is not a sign of weakness through empowerment.…

The audience could not include all of their target audience because a retain amount of women dislike sports, and this commercial airing during a sports event might initially limit their audience targets. Also, the video uses logos to inform the audience that confidence decreases during puberty, and used an indirect call to action by stating that there is a possibility for change and some of the commercial viewers might not have children to reflect and act accordingly, creating a restraint. Another important constraint could deal with some traditions, beliefs, or habits that have already been ingrained on certain cultures that perceive females to be inferior to males and perhaps using the term “like a girl” is not an insult, but a reminder of what they believe to be true. Lastly, “like a girl” is an issue that is being perceived as a problem because its demonstrating that females are becoming less confident with themselves due to society.…

In their commercial “#likeagirl - Unstoppable”, Always uses a mix of emotional appeal and rationale throughout the video to convey the message to the audience that girls are unstoppable. Always, clearly, is directing this commercial towards younger women of all races and cultures because all biologically born women will begin puberty soon or have started puberty. This would be the age range from eleven to twenty years old in women. It is obvious Always’ targeted audience is younger women because not only does Always state in the commercial, “During puberty a girl’s confidence plummets, making her more likely to accept limitations” before expressing “Always wants to change that”…

Effectively using a pathos appeal, yet again, to connect to the audience and causing them see that something is wrong with these stereotypes. The women that can connect with this section of the video know first-hand what it feels like to hear the words “Like a girl”, and how hurtful it can be as they develop, and this is an extremely effective way of getting these women on board with Always’ campaign against the gender stereotypes. This section of the video shifts to an uplifting tone as an adult woman says motivational things about self-acceptance, and embracing “Like a girl” because one is a girl, and that shouldn’t mean anything bad; society just makes it seem like something bad because of the…

Gender stereotype is a prevalent issue in America and all over the world. The portrayal of men and women minorities in media has received considerable attention over the decade. Men are stereotyped as strong, independent, emotionless, goal-oriented and agented whereas, women are stereotyped as interdependent, communal, sensitive, and oriented towards others. The gender bias seen in the media affects the viewers in some way or another. I chose the ad song “Shetopia” by Sally Hansen, because it breaks the gender stereotype and motivates its audience to chase their goals that are non stereotypical.…

Super Bowl ’15 Commercial is exactly why feminism is apparent in our country because it has the effect of leaving many women to feel as though they do not fit into the physicality of what is ‘attractive.’ The actress in the commercial refers to herself as being “all natural,” when she has clearly been enhanced physically in almost every way possible. This puts an assumption on the way women should look when they’re ‘all natural’ (no make-up, airbrush, hair done, etc.) which is clearly not a reality. A quote from the film Miss Representation, “If the media is telling girls all the power lies in their bodies, this distracts them from making a difference” (Miss Representation). Not every girl or women can look like the actress in this commercial because not one individual in our country is the same.…

The video for Miss Representation starts off with a very powerful text by Alice Walker: “The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any.” The video then proceeds to list statistics about how the average American teenager spends their time online, reading magazines, and watching television. After reading these statistics the viewer is made aware of how much time these teenagers spend on Media; they are spending numerous hours on it. They are spending almost half their day on media consumption. The video then cuts to various clips showing women in highly sexual acts.…

Seeing real girls respond to these questions and take part in this social experiment adds to the emotional appeal. Women who are watching this may be able to directly relate to the scenario, whether they were an uninhibited young girl themselves or they are now subconsciously lacking the confidence they know they once had. Any connection a viewer may make with themselves and the message of the video forms an emotional connection to the cause. This emotional appeal is effective in spreading their message and provoking change because it increases the ability to ignite a spark within someone, and cause them to want to do something about it. It is much more fulfilling to see this problem in action, rather than read or hear about it, which makes the medium of a video very valuable for the effectiveness of this…

Similar scenes of flapping arms follow as the director asks the same criteria of a boy and a man. They are told to fight and throw like a girl. They begin to scratch at the air, whining and “throwing” a hypothetical ball, which in their imagination, lands just a few feet in front of them. They reflect their disappointment for their inability to complete such a mundane task by shrugging their shoulders in defeat. A written question pops up on the screen, “We asked young girls the same question.”…

The advertisement presented by Hartmann in the 2015 5th edition Times Magazine, shows us there is clear evidence of stereotypical gender issues. The advertisement shows a petite, blonde woman in a long dress carrying a luggage walking past a man who is attempting to hold her back from moving and talk to her. The advertisement then goes to state in capital letters “Weightless Beauty” which may refer to the luggage suitcase. Upon further inspection, this advertisement may be portraying woman as weightless beauty because she seems to be picked up by the man hence weightless and beauty as in the woman. The advertisement is unclear if the text is meant towards the suitcase or woman.…

The pads ‘#likeagirl’ 2 minute commercial is able to portray the importance of accepting people, in particular females and who they are, and not stereotyping genders so they are depicted to do things differently or act in a specific manner. This is similar to the ‘Barbie; imagine the possibilities’ commercial as in 2 minutes, it shows females have no limits and should not be judged on who they are or what they do because ‘they are free to imagine they can be anything’. This is an important message that is displayed as society has often stereotyped women as though they should be the ones who play netball, stay home with their children whilst the fathers work and should never have a job which requires them…
