The sunny weather causes me to go outdoors and join my best friend for an adventure. On any terrain I can ride at fast speeds and feel the wind through my hair in nature. Each day try to learn something new so we can improve our skills. Being an equestrian rider has shaped my viewpoints on my future career and family.
Participating with horses has increased my social skills. Caring for the horses and equipment has taught me respect. For example, brushing the horses with the various tools taught me to be diligent and respect my work. I applied these values to my family life with chores such as cleaning my room. Caring for the horses has taught me different character skills. People at the stables each have different personalities. They have taught me to be open minded and to respect opinions I do not agree with. I apply these skills with my family by trying to use my critical thinking skills to solve problems. Equestrian riding has taught me to be nicer to my family and to love the different traits in my family that make them unique. Also cleaning the horses to make sure that they do not have debris on them has taught me to have a good work ethic. I take pride in my work whether it is cooking dinner for my family or cleaning the dishes. Another skill I have acquired from horseback riding is confidence. Riding animals that weigh a ton and are very powerful is a great way to increase my self confidence. With confidence, I can voice my opinions about issues that I have about subjects that my family is discussing. Another added bonus of horse riding is that I always have I topic I can talk to about with my family. For example, my sister also rides horses. Riding at the same stable has increased our bonding time since she has a busy schedule. Even though, my instructor has shown me the benefits of working as a riding instructor I prefer working with horses. I enjoy watching their grace and strength. I have always loved animals. I have always loved learning about different varieties of a species so I can impress people. My riding instructor has taught me different breeds of horses in the stables such as Arabians, Morgans and Quarter horses. By volunteering, I have learned about different horse diseases. This has made me become interested in veterinary medicine. I enjoy helping animals feel better. Working with these majestic creatures has helped me to lean towards equine veterinary medicine. Even though, I will officially decide if I want to specialize in domestic, farm, equine or exotic animals, my volunteer experience at the stables has give my valuable lessons on how horses think. This experience will be valuable to me in the future since I can use the volunteering hours from the stables as my animal experience hours I need.
