Recently, honor codes have become more present in the high school and college settings. Although it is sad that cheating, stealing information, and plagiarizing have become such a major problem in schools, one good thing is occurring from this: establishments of honor codes. I believe all schools, mine included, should work towards forming stronger honor codes and honor systems. The implementation of honor codes proves to lower the amount of cheating, improve the overall academic environment, and exponentially fit in any scholarly setting. Many view the idea of a honor code as just another pointless, ignorant rule that students must follow in a school. Most of the time, a honor code is overlooked and not upheld. The only way to end the overwhelming amount of cheating is to enforce the rules which are followed by consequences, if violated. I believe Vangelli’s strategy in Source B would be most effective. On every piece of submitted work, a pledge of honor was required to be written. This duty caused students to stop and think about whether or not they would cheat before every single assignment. The only way a honor code will be successful is if the students uphold to it and enforce it themselves. Source C focuses on a peer’s influence on fulfilling this responsibility or not. Cheating solely falls on the student’s shoulders. Those who do choose to cheat choose to do so because they know that they will not be caught or no one will turn them in. Peer-enforced honor codes state “ the likelihood of being caught depends on other students’ tolerance for cheating (Source C.)” If students and their fellow peers become responsible for enforcing the honor code, I believe the entire system would be taken more seriously and be
