Hae Min Lee Case

The murder case of Hae Min Lee is full of many holes and facts that don’t match up. That’s what makes the case intriguing, a person could take either side. Who is the real killer though? Adnan is rightfully innocent due to Jay’s testimony, the lack of evidence in Jay’s account, and contamination of evidence by the police in the investigation. Hae’s body was linked to the back of her car with no supporting physical evidence to Adnan, yet he was still accused. On January 13, 1999 Hae Min Lee was murdered and buried in the forest of a park named Leakin Park. Hae could have been murder by multiple people, but the jury decided to convict Adnan Syed, Hae’s ex boyfriend, as the murder. The case is so interesting that there is a whole podcast dedicated …show more content…
Hae managed wrestling with her friend, but Hae told her friend that she wasn’t going to be able to go to the meet. When Hae told her friend she wasn’t going to be able to attend the meet, it would have cut into the time of Hae being murdered. There was no way she was killed in the time frame that Jay gave. Three people had also said the same thing which proves this even more. It was also possible that the “come and get me” call from Adnan was at 3:15 PM. That messes with Jay’s testimony though. The “come and get me call” was in the call logs as 2:36 PM. In Jay’s testimony he says it was at 3:45, not until he left Jenn’s house. There was no incoming call around 3:45 PM in the call logs, Sarah concludes. If you look at the call logs, there was actually a call at 3:15 PM, which actually could have been the “come and get me, i’m at Best Buy” call. Was this information left out on purpose? Well, yes and no, Jay testified a specific order of events. He said that he called Jenn at 3:21, after leaving the park with Adnan. That’s only Jay’s half of the story though, Adnan never spoke about

Peter Lee has acknowledged that Eun Lee has refuted the allegation that she worked or provided a massage for compensation on January 5, 2017. Mr. Lee argues that Eun Lee could not have been giving a massage that day because she is currently employed by Phoenix Spa. However, the letter from Phoenix Spa states that she works 15 days a month. Ladies and gentlemen of the Jury, On January 13, 1999, Hae Min Lee looked forward to another eventful exciting day at Woodlawn High School. Sadly this was not any ordinary day when the afternoon came around and Hae went missing. This was undoubtedly a horrible tragedy but the evidence will strongly support that Adnan Syed is not guilty. The state's main evidence will strongly depend on the claims of Jay Wilds a criminal and he is known to change his story multiple times.…

This means the murder occurred between the time school let out at 2:15 to 2:36 pm. In the podcast, Serial, Sarah Koenig and an acquaintance attempted to retrace the events that occurred on the day of the murder based on cell phone records. They found that by rushing through traffic the fastest they could get to Best Buy was in 18 mins which, only leaves 3 mins for the actual murder to occur. In that time Adnan would have to strangle Hae, pick up her dead body and stuff it in the trunk, and then place a call to Jay from a telephone pole. There are several issues with this theory for example how is it possible to get a dead body into the trunk of a car without being noticed in the middle of the day or, why was there no evidence of a struggle when Hae was known to be an athletic girl who was in shape.…

Since Jay saw the body in the trunk, this is proof that Adnan had murdered Hae. However, this is false since every time Jay was interviewed, his story kept being changed many times. In the podcast Sarah Koenig said, But, of course, two weeks later big swathes of his story have changed.” (Episode 4, pg 67). This quote is showing that Jay is changing his story a couple of times when he is interviewed.…

The many events in the revealing of the truth were both significant in some cases and in other, more proof that Jay was with Adnan the day of the murder like he says. Kernel events that Jay explains that help give authenticity to his testimony is the where about of Hae Lee’s car. Jay showed the detectives where she parked therefore making his statement more reliable. Another kernel event was Jays timeline of the day Hae was murder in comparison to the cell phone towers that logged where Adnan’s cellphone was located at during what time. Another event that Jay said took place was that they went to the mall after Adnan disposed of the body and Jenn met them there to pick Jay up, this is a satellite event because if Adnan had never murdered Hae in the first place who knows if they would have been there together, but Jenn is…

The call logs did not match the states timeline nor Jay’s perspective on the timeline how he told the story. If the call logs did not match the timeline how was the police to get hard evidence like Hae’s Car. If they dont matter how can they say Adnan is guilty the timeline can prove his innocence because the incoming/outgoing calls on January 13th are nowhere close to the states timeline. Furthermore, how did Jay know where Hae’s car was and not Adnan.…

His heroic testimony against his good friend is the main reason the state was able to correctly convict Adnan. In his sworn statement, Jay affirms Adnan killed Hae and that he saw her dead body. He tells investigators, “all [he could] see [was that] Hae’s lips [were] all blue, and she [was] pretzeled up in the back of the trunk. And she [was] dead.” This descriptive account of Jay’s first interaction with the deceased corps is very clear evidence that he was a witness to this disgusting act.…

Certainly the jurors thought it was a crime of passion, although the judge did not think it was not a good motive. The jurors during this case were as quick as lightning and convicted Adnan of first-degree murder, in under two hours. How can a jury convict someone for first degree murder in under two hours, especially not having enough evidence to prove Adnan did kill Hae? All they had was Jay’s testimony, which brings me to my second reason as to why Adnan is innocent of the murder of Hae Lee.…

Even with all of this in mind, the court sees him as the main suspect and is not dissuaded by his normal persona. They pin him as Hae Min Lee’s killer by using the jealous boyfriend stereotype. It is also bad for his case when there are phone records and accounts of him acting strange on the day of her murder. Jay seems to be the only one that has a story that is sound enough to have Adnan as the main suspect.…

In addition Jay mentions Patapsco Park in his interview with the police, but he never says anything about it during the trial because it messes with the timeline the prosecution has. Another thing they didn’t mention in court was Asia McClain’s alibi for Adnan that day.
