emory on its best day is reconstructive by nature. However, the occurrence of a significant event can help aid in the encoding process of a memory from short to long term. The ability to recall a memory is influenced not only by personal ties and connections but, information received after an event has occurred. The lack of credible and tangible evidence in the trial of Adnan Syed leads me to believe he is innocent of the crimes in which he is convicted for.
Adnan’s former classmate, Jay Chaudhry's story is the centerpiece upon which the prosecution builds its case. During his interrogation Jay claims that Adnan informed him beforehand that he was going to murder his ex-girlfriend and asked him to assist in burying Hae Min Lee’s body. An eye witness testimony such as this is vital in a case without any

This means the murder occurred between the time school let out at 2:15 to 2:36 pm. In the podcast, Serial, Sarah Koenig and an acquaintance attempted to retrace the events that occurred on the day of the murder based on cell phone records. They found that by rushing through traffic the fastest they could get to Best Buy was in 18 mins which, only leaves 3 mins for the actual murder to occur. In that time Adnan would have to strangle Hae, pick up her dead body and stuff it in the trunk, and then place a call to Jay from a telephone pole. There are several issues with this theory for example how is it possible to get a dead body into the trunk of a car without being noticed in the middle of the day or, why was there no evidence of a struggle when Hae was known to be an athletic girl who was in shape. This idea that Adnan killed her in 21 mins seems farfetched. By constructing this time frame the prosecution is implying that the murder was premeditated because it would take meticulous planning to succeed in executing a murder under such time

The reason it is believable Adnan hired a hitman was because he did not want to get his hands dirty. But something happened and that is why Jay had to incriminate Adnan, many clues can prove Adnan and Jay did not kill Hae. The many events in the revealing of the truth were both significant in some cases and in other, more proof that Jay was with Adnan the day of the murder like he says. Kernel events that Jay explains that help give authenticity to his testimony is the where about of Hae Lee’s car. Jay showed the detectives where she parked therefore making his statement more reliable. Another kernel event was Jays timeline of the day Hae was murder in comparison to the cell phone towers that logged where Adnan’s cellphone was located at during what time. Another event that Jay said took place was that they went to the mall after Adnan disposed of the body and Jenn met them there to pick Jay up, this is a satellite event because if Adnan had never murdered Hae in the first place who knows if they would have been there together, but Jenn is…

In 1976, an innocent man named Randall Adams was convicted and imprisoned for the murder of officer Robert Wood, after the presumed killer David Harris gave a false statement against him. This case inspired the documentary, “Thin Blue Line” and led to widespread controversy about the investigation. The documentary features several interviews of individuals involved in the case and these interviews highlight many aspects of how human memory works. The interviews reflected different ways that errors in memory can occur, such as spreading activation’s role in source confusion and false memories, as well as the limitations of visual memory. Furthermore, the documentary also made apparent how strongly biases and opinions can shape our attitudes about experiences.…

His heroic testimony against his good friend is the main reason the state was able to correctly convict Adnan. In his sworn statement, Jay affirms Adnan killed Hae and that he saw her dead body. He tells investigators, “all [he could] see [was that] Hae’s lips [were] all blue, and she [was] pretzeled up in the back of the trunk. And she [was] dead.” This descriptive account of Jay’s first interaction with the deceased corps is very clear evidence that he was a witness to this disgusting act.…

The second reason I think Adnan must be innocent is because there are too many inconsistencies that Jay provides during his testimony while being interviewed by the police. Jay provides many stories, which sometimes do not match up to Adnan’s story or to the stories he provides. There were many inconsistencies that did not make sense, of which I will share the 3 that I found most important, which you can find in episode 4 called “Inconsistencies". The…

Even with all of this in mind, the court sees him as the main suspect and is not dissuaded by his normal persona. They pin him as Hae Min Lee’s killer by using the jealous boyfriend stereotype. It is also bad for his case when there are phone records and accounts of him acting strange on the day of her murder. Jay seems to be the only one that has a story that is sound enough to have Adnan as the main suspect.…

In addition Jay mentions Patapsco Park in his interview with the police, but he never says anything about it during the trial because it messes with the timeline the prosecution has. Another thing they didn’t mention in court was Asia McClain’s alibi for Adnan that day. Is murder included when he says “anything”or is there a grey area. Going back to his own observations these are what make him the most questionable, Jay remembers way too many details about how Hae looked. If Jay killed Hae that would explain his extensive knowledge on the smaller details of the murder and the changes in story. The things he is sharing could quite possible be his memories that he now has to use to frame someone else unfortunately Adnan being the easy escape-go. Jay killing Hae premeditatively makes more sense she had something that jeopardized Jay’s relationship with Stephanie so her panned out how to kill her and ended up being able to frame…

Real Life Situation: As part of my English Literature and Language Course, I’m analyzing a book by Gabriel Marquez, named Chronicle of a death foretold. The book is based on true events, and explores a local murder. In order recount the events and causation of the murder; Marquez interviews several eyewitnesses of the murder, each of which remembers the day very differently. Ranging from disagreements about the weather to the amount of times the victim was stabbed. This seemed absurd to me, as people who had each witnessed the same sight under the same circumstances provided polar opposite accounts of what had actually happened.…
