Is Jay Lying Case Study

Is Jay lying? From the get go Jay is a character that I find a little off-putting. His story constantly changes and is never the same twice. Key details get switched around when they should have been certain, friends of Jays are seemingly covering for him, and he plays the victim role all too well. This case has more twists and turns than a maze. There has never been any hard evidence proving that Adnan killed Hae. All the prosecution ever had was Jay’s testimony and without that the whole case would have fell through. Jay is being untruthful about what happened on that fateful night and truth will eventually come to light. The events of that night are quite different when told by Adnan versus Jay. On one hand Adnan says him and Jay were just riding around, getting high, and doing his normal day-to-day routine. When Jay tells his side he spins a …show more content…
That doesn’t really scream criminal mastermind to me. Common sense would tell anyone that the police prefers murders over drug dealers any day. If Jay had went to the police when he supposedly first learned of Hae’s death he could have avoided any involvement in to the crime. Had he gone to the police when Adnan told he was going to kill Hae the murder never would have happened. If you had the opportunity to save a life would you stop to think of the consequences? One thing about this case is undeniably certain. Jay is somehow connected to the murder of Hae Min Lee. And I have an aching feeling that he is closer to it than he is letting on. Jay’s stories do not add up. Could be that they’re never the same, could be that his friend’s stories are fishy too, or it could be that he is trying way too hard to appear innocent. Whatever the case may be Hae’s murder is being looked at closer than ever before and Adnan’s chances at freedom are looking better than

Why would Rae Concha intentionally kill Jason Johnson, his best friend with his Adderall? It is a known fact that Jason died, and that Adderall and alcohol was found in his body but was it really Rae Concha that caused it? Dr. Casey Burke testified that Jason’s abuse of alcohol caused cardiac arrest, killing him. To begin Jay story is not consistent. In episode four they talk about how he was interviewed at least six different times and each time his story shifted. This shows that Jay could be lying and should not be a factor of Adnan's conviction. Looking into the podcast, Sarah says, “In the first taped statement, Jay says he refused to help dig a grave for Hae. Two weeks later, he says they both dug the hole” (Inconsistencies).…

The second reason I think Adnan must be innocent is because there are too many inconsistencies that Jay provides during his testimony while being interviewed by the police. Jay provides many stories, which sometimes do not match up to Adnan’s story or to the stories he provides. There were many inconsistencies that did not make sense, of which I will share the 3 that I found most important, which you can find in episode 4 called “Inconsistencies". The…

Even with all of this in mind, the court sees him as the main suspect and is not dissuaded by his normal persona. They pin him as Hae Min Lee’s killer by using the jealous boyfriend stereotype. It is also bad for his case when there are phone records and accounts of him acting strange on the day of her murder. Jay seems to be the only one that has a story that is sound enough to have Adnan as the main suspect.…
