Discussion of what would be accomplished in each session and technique(s) used
The primary accomplishment I wish to achieve in the first session is to reduce the anxiety that is being experienced within the family unit. By achieving this each family member should be better equipped to handle any emotionally charged incident and act in a calmer fashion. They will be tasked with expressing their anger by not resorting to yelling, screaming, raised voices, or by any other means that would reflect that they are reacting more emotionally than logically. An additional task is to make it one week without fighting with Jim. A treatment goal for Jim is to attend school every day for a minimum of one week while behaving in an age-appropriate manner. He is to give his teachers his undivided attention and actively participate and take notes in all classes. Homework assignments are to be reviewed by his parents. During his one week of full attendance another task will be to do so without receiving detention. Since it was determined that Sally is indeed acting as a ‘clown’ to receive attention her treatment goal is to improve her social skills. To accomplish this goal Sally should express herself verbally instead of acting silly. She is to speak clearly and meaningfully so her parents and brother understand her. Another task is for Sally to make a new friend and spend at least two hours a week interacting with him or her.
