Genogram Reflection

After concluding the genogram, it dawned on me that my family didn’t necessarily have many issues regarding emotional relationships. I think most of it has to deal with the recent transition of a laid-back household to a religious household where my parents are very much involved with the church alongside my younger siblings. With that being said I did notice that my paternal family had a higher chance of dying young whereas my maternal family had a much longer lifespan. I also took into consideration that the marriages that occurred where between individuals that where only a couple of years apart from one another. I can’t claim any educational patterns that have occurred within the household since I’ve been the only one who’s attended college. However, I do have hope that me attending college will influence my younger siblings to also want to go. Another thing that I found within the …show more content…
So much so that my mother calls my grandmother every single night and she personally goes to her house and drives her to church to attend both the morning and the afternoon sermon. Another strength that I found in the genogram is that me and my sister have a very close relationship. Reason being that I’m very keen of helping her out in her school assignments and homework and I think that for the most part she’s very grateful that I’m there to help her complete her homework since we both come from an only Spanish speaking household. I realized that we had a close relationship because after valentine’s day she went up to me and she told me that she was sad because no one had given her anything for valentine’s day to which I responded with getting her a huge pink flamingo and a box of chocolates and she has been very attached to me ever since because she realized that I went out of my way to actually get her something to make her

Family Assessment of Shelby Eatenton Latcherie Family does not have a universal definition, and over the years the definition has changed from a traditional mother, father, and children to several variations. Examples of these are parents that are unmarried, are of the same sex and those that do not live in the same household but do what is called co-parenting. The definition of family according to Kaakinen, Coehlo, Steele, Tabacco, & Hanson (2015) is "Family refers to two or more individuals who depend on one another for emotional, physical, and economic support. The members of the family are self defined" (p. 5). The movie, Steel Magnolias, is based on a true story but names, details and events have been changed.…

Genogram Paper Jermaine Hibbert Seton Hall University Genogram Paper Engaging in the genogram assignment proved to be a challenging, arduous, and enlightening experience to say the least. Although, my genogram is not as extensive and accurate as it could be, that in and of it-self proved to be an area of unexplored learning of growth. Secondly, I will attempt to explore and process as best as I can all the limitations, whether self imposed or boundaries that my large, yet somewhat disconnected family has set in place.…

Family Introduction Creating this genogram was a difficult task for me because my parents and their siblings hardly communicate with each other anymore. Ever since the passing of both my paternal grandfather and maternal grandmother, the families have simply fallen apart. Many relatives have distanced themselves from their extended families, and no longer have a desire to interact with their siblings or cousins. Sociopolitical and spiritual issues have caused some members of both families to harbor resentment against one another.…

Every family has unfinished business, and my family is no exception. Multigenerational patterns (Goldenberg & Goldenberg, 2013; McGoldrick, Gerson, & Shellenberger, 1999) influence and contribute to relationship problems within family systems and to individual development. In my family, many conflict situations, or events have seemingly been resolved, however, the unresolved patterns that have gone unaddressed continue to fester, repeating themselves over time in different situations and life events. Bequeathed from generations before, and acquired honestly, my family struggles with destructive behaviors and patterns as defined by Goldenberg & Goldenberg, (2013); cut- off, dysfunctional triangulation, conflicts with attachment figures, and…

A genogram is a visual representation of family connections. Symbols used within the genogram can illustrate various social and emotional relationships between family members. In psychiatric-mental health nursing, genograms are helpful tools for exploring specific patterns within a family that span generations (Kneisl & Trigoboff, 2013, p. 652). For example, a client with alcoholism can generate a genogram to visualize patterns of alcoholism within his or her family (Kneisl & Trigoboff, 2013, p. 652). My genogram goes back three generations and highlights the psychological abuse passed down from my grandmother to my father and from my father to his children.…

Doing a Genogram about my family history, beliefs, and culture is somewhat difficult for me due to a number of reasons. One being that I never met my biological father therefore don’t know anything of the family background that compiles half of my genetic make up, another reason being because I know very little of my mother’s extended family, and frankly because I don’t think we really have many structured family beliefs. Before I dive into the cultural beliefs that my family has, let me quickly explain my family dynamic. My mother was one of two daughters. My aunt Debra moved to Texas before I was born and to this day I have never met her or anyone in her family.…
