My professional status as a RN will be discussed based on the Behavioral Inventory for Professionalism in Nursing of Miler, Adams, and Beck. This instrument directs the RN to self- evaluate his/her professionalism and seek a higher degree of professionalism in nursing (Miller, Adams, & Beck, 1993). Regarding my educational background, I have an ASN degree and a BA degree in Sociology. I am continuing my education to receive a BSN. Having my ASN and BA, this will enable me to achieve my BSN in only one year. Obtaining a BSN is instrumental in my development as a RN and for my career. Being able to communicate is an essential tool of the RN. I will communicate on a daily basis with patients, families and health care professionals. Being able to express yourself to others is vital. Therapeutic communication will be utilized, when interacting with patients and their families. Another way one can communicate in the nursing profession is via publication. Publishing scholarly writing will build an evidence base for practice and contribute to the knowledge base of nurses and other healthcare professionals (Glasper and Schilling, 2013).
Nurses should want to participate in research. This will provide valuable information that will be shared and can be a vital tool in enhancing competent patient care. Getting involved with the community service activities is a wonderful way to express and share our expertise with the community. This will let them know, that yes we do care and stand with
