Prior to my involvement with S.O.L, I hardly engaged in community service events because I was too shy to volunteer alone. Many of my friends had similar issues, they want to help the community but they didn’t know how to or they were too afraid to do it alone. I believed that S.O.L was the perfect vehicle to get my friends as well as myself involved in community events. Last year S.O.L participated in over six community service events as a group, seeing my friends and members volunteer together in the community made me very proud. My members as well as my friends became productive and involved community members and soon they were proposing the events the club should do next. I found that helping the community was very gratifying and fulfilling but what I appreciated the most was observing the change in my members and friends. I was able to see my members and friends break out of their shell and comfort zone, they were no longer “scared” or “too” shy to engage in the community, instead they were telling me the types of events they want to
