Many of the organizations that I am involved in, including FFA, 4-H, and LYO, take part in several service projects throughout the year. As a result, I have been involved in multiple community service activities over the course of my high school career, such as taking a week-long mission trip to Nashville, Tennessee this past summer, or just spending an evening during the holiday season Christmas caroling around town. Although some people aren't always willing to give up their time to help others, I believe that an essential aspect of being a member of a community is being willing and able to devote your time to helping others. It helps you develop positive relationships, and it lets the people you're helping know that there are places they can turn to for support. Community service is not as bad as some people make it out to be. I myself had an internal groan when I heard that community service was required and would be set as a grade. I had only known volunteerism as doing a dull boring task with no discernible reward. But after experiencing it for myself I found it quite the contrary. Volunteering is a way to meet new people and witness a group working toward a greater cause.…

Ever since I came to Xaverian in 2013, I have looked forward to being able participate in Christian Senior Service. The fact that Xaverian gives students the opportunity to give back to their community last quarter of their Senior year (and high school career) is extremely invaluable. I have always enjoyed doing service. It is something that I know helps the people I am serving, but also makes me feel good inside. Helping those around me is a desire that comes natural to me.…

This is an opportunity that not everyone has the privilege to be a part of during their high school career. I have done several things in order to contribute to my community through volunteerism. One of the biggest things that I was a part of was the Boy Scouts of America, which has a huge foundation on volunteerism. In my troop, I have earned the rank of Eagle Scout, which requires an extensive service project. What I did for my project, was restore an old monkey bar set, and a bleacher, along with building new teeter-tooters for Hasbrouck Park in Hydetown. When I was doing community service was taking the bus to the different places. My mother did not have a car and she taught me how to use the public transportation, so I did not have to depend on anyone and assist to any event I wanted/want to be part of. Public transportation in Orlando is not the best, but I did not let this limit me, even though it was tiring to wake up 2 hours earlier, wait an extra hour for the bus or walk a couple of miles. This was part of my learning and was part of my formation to become more independent. Since I enjoy going to volunteer I did not mind waking up 2 hours earlier to catch that bus or walk an extra mile to be able to get to the place I was volunteering at.…
