Imagine it’s a Friday night and your school won a football game that was highly anticipated. You’re in the in the backseat of car going out to celebrate and your having a blast with your friends. The driver gets a text message and everybody hears it. All your friends know that being on your phone while driving is dangerous and has costly affects but you think it will never happen to you. The next second, you hear a horn from another car and screams coming from your friends. You wake up laying on the grass next to the flipped car. You see your two best friends on the road covered in blood and dead. The other people are trapped in the cars screaming and crying for help. You think to yourself what happened? Did you know that even though drivers know its dangerous to use their cell phone while driving, they still do it? The Harris Poll points out that a large number of people do not obey the state laws of banning the use of cell phone usage while driving. Drivers literally don’t care about the safety of themselves and other drivers. There are a lot of examples on the news and on the internet about how dangerous using your cell phone while driving. AAA states that driver distraction causes 4,000 to 8,000 U.S. accidents every day. (McClatchy Dynes) How many more deaths is it going to take until people realize the impact of innocent lives are being taken? The driver who is distracted on their cell phone and the driver who got hit are the ones who are affected. There are two dangers with driving and using a cell phone at the same time. First, the driver has to take their eyes of the road and hands off the wheel to operate the cell phone. Second, people can be so involved in the conversion that their ability to concentrate on driving is severely impaired. (Barry
