Distracted driving can cause terrible accidents that may affect people for the rest of their lives. Being distracted behind the wheel can be dangerous and even fatal. I support legislation making handheld cellphones behind the wheel illegal. There are times when using a cellphone while driving may be necessary. Emergencies and unexpected calls may happen while driving; calls such as these require the driver to answer their cellphone in a prompt manner. Nevertheless, use of handheld cellphones behind the wheel is dangerous. While on a cellphone, the driver is distracted from the road and only uses one hand to control the wheel; they are more focused on holding the phone than driving. This can cause major accidents due to the driver
