I would like to make an argument that any American who has passed all the necessary requirements is able to carry a handgun, concealed safely. Imagine you are in a movie theatre enjoying a movie with your family. All of the sudden, someone two rows in front of you pulls out a handgun and starts emptying his magazine into the crowd. What do you do? If you were one of the brave, responsible, law abiding citizens that happen to carry a concealed weapon, you could save up to dozens of lives, including your own family. Once you hear this argument, I hope that you will agree that it is a good thing for responsible people to carry firearms. I’m not accusing the government of anything, but if the American people were not allowed the right to bear arms, could you imagine how easy it would be for the government to take complete control? Were the Jews allowed to carry firearms in the 1930s and 1940s? Are Christians in the Middle East allowed to carry firearms right now? As George Santayana said, “Those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it.” History shows that a nation without guns is a nation that isn’t strong enough to protect itself. One last reason why I believe guns should be legal is that hunting is one of the richest traditions of our nation. Native Americans have hunted the wild animals of this land since before any white man even knew North America existed. The original patriots of our country have been hunting since before we gained our independence from England. Respectful hunting should be allowed forever. Critics argue that if guns remain legal, every criminal who wants a gun can get one if he or she tries hard enough. This may be true, but criminals WILL get guns no matter what. If guns are illegal, law abiding citizens will forfeit their guns and be unarmed, but do you think that a criminal will turn in his gun that he already possesses illegally? If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have
