My experience at Dr. Palerino office has been great for me. During my daily duties at my externship, I learned how to schedule and reschedule patient’s appointments from answering phone calls. As patients came in for appointments, I learned how to prepare their charts and create charts for new patients. I was showed how to fax papers such as prescriptions to pharmacies. I also learned how to set up for different procedures such as pap smears and ingrown toenail removal. I also was in charge of making sure all the rooms were filled with a patient for the doctor to see. I also had to write the patient's chief complaint in their charts, and perform EKG, urinalysis, and tympanograms. I also pulled charts at the end of the day so it would be ready for the next day. After every patient left, I would file his or her chart in the appropriate space. At the end of the day, I cleaned …show more content…
It gave me exposure to the medical field and what happens in the office every day. I also improved with my interpersonal skills and my communication skills. I also benefited from this experience because it taught me how to work more professionally and competently with my co-workers. I also gained valuable and realistic job experiences. My externship experience also taught me to learn and understand all the day-to-day tasks of a medical assistant.
My externship experience will help me in my medical assisting career because it gave me the chance to work directly with patients, doctors and other health care providers. It gave me a great way to discover a great deal of information about the medical assistant profession. It also helped me in my medical assisting career because it taught me to concentrate, regulate myself, and administer my time appropriately.
