Becoming A Medical Assistant

Medical assistants, which may also be referred to as a ¨Clinical Assistant¨, typically have many responsibilities throughout their career. The job description includes: recording any patient history, taking vital signs,scheduling appointments, entering medical information in records, and most importantly helping physicians. To become a medical assistant, there is not very much education that you would need to accomplish this career. There are also some benefits and cons of working as one. It is different now to become a medical assistant then it was in the past. For example, Angelina College and Northeast Texas Community College offer the program necessary will still being in the state of Texas and with short commute from home. The completion time of the program depends off if you are a full time student or not, but if you are it should take a year or two to complete. Once you become a medical assistant, there are several tasks that are required for you to do on a daily basis. The work schedule is a eight to five work day which is beneficial to some people. Medical assistants have the opportunity to work at their choice of hospitals, doctors offices, or small clinics. If you work at a hospital, the work schedule may vary. One main question everyone asks themselves when getting a job is the salary. The salary for a medical assistant starts at about $32,480 yearly, but this also depends on where and how long you have worked. The longer you have worked in that career or any career for that matter, the more likely you are to get raises and a higher pay. To some people, the pay does not matter as long as they enjoy what they are doing but you also have to be able to make a living and support themselves. Being a medical assistant has its good and bad factors. For one, there is a high demand for the job in the United States. The job outlook is expected to grow between 2016-2026 by 29%, which is higher than most careers. Second, there is the knowledge of knowing that you are helping others, which is rewarding for some. Some negative factors of a medical assistant is the pay and the stressful workload. The pay of a medical mentioned before, is not much, there are some positions in certain work environments that you could make the same amount of money without any education, which is not encouraging.
