It was 4 years ago on a hot summer day. I was outside playing basketball with my little brother when my grandpa came outside and asked me, “Do you want to go to the lake?”
I replied, “Sure, but I can 't swim that good.”
He exclaimed, “You can wear one of my life jackets.”
I agreed and ran in the house as fast as I could to get dressed and make some food to bring. It was a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, some Doritos and a root beer . When I 'm finished making my food I put it in the …show more content…
By this time I 'm leaning over the boat about to throw up, then all of a sudden a huge wave hits the boat and I go over. Before I could even react the water swallowed me and then I started to panic and splash around trying to stay above the water for as long as I can. My My grandpa jumps in the water and tries to grab me but I slip out his hands and go back down under the water. My grandpa dives down under after me and grabs me and drags me to the surface of the water then he pulls me to the side of the boat where he hands me a rope. And helps me climb in the boat. I 'm a little scared and my heart feels like it 's about to jump out my chest but other than that I 'm ok. Then my grandpa says in a serious but joking voice “I bet you keep your life jacket on this time” I just sat there not saying a word. My uncle hands me a towel and goes back to fishing. I put the life jacket back on and sit there frozen with fear. My grandpa asked if I was ok and I responded, ”yes, a little scared but I 'll live” he says with a “smile you need to learn how to swim, come over here I 'll show you” I walk over to him and the pushed me in the water and I think I 'm going to die. I start splashing and squirming around then I realize I have a life jacket on. My grandpa jumps in with me and teaches me the basic strokes and how to tread water so I don 't sink, then we get back on the boat and dry off. On the way home my grandpa says “don 't tell your mother you almost drowned” I looked at him with a smile and said “trust me I won 't”. When we finally got home we acted like nothing happened.
